Doug_GT350
It sure is pretty! I know I'll get blasted for saying this but I'm not a fan of a Roush motor in a Shelby, at least remove all the Roush markings. But none the less it's a beauty. If you are going to do a replica Shelby, one would think would would make all aspects of it as Cobra like as you can. From the stand point of marketing a car for sale, I would think the Roush badging would work against you. Jim
twobjshelbys
I don't know what time frame this engine was built. Some of us had/have horrible stories about Roush engines. My fuel injection was a 2 year nightmare. Others had problems with the block quality causing excessive oil consumption (some got new engines). The details are all on www.clubcobra.com
ITHERTZ66
Any issues I've researched about the Roush engines from this era were pretty much limited to the "R" series engines such as the 427R. The engine in my car is a 402 AL, and I have not heard of one failure in this engine. It is much milder and more conservative of a street build than the race spec engines that had some issues. The Roush engines were the engines of choice for the Superformance dealers and added substantial cost (fully warrantied) so there was no fear of a "who built it" factor to an engine which affects it's value, especially upon resale. If somebody wanted to replace the valve covers and air cleaner that is certainly an easy thing to do. Mine was a 427IR (fuel injection) and the others were also R. I had no oil issues with mine though and once I got the DFI to work correctly I liked it alot. A friend put the 427R in his SPFGT40 but has since decided to do something different.

BAD SNAKE
Nice car. Stupid question time, why is the exhaust running under the car? I always thought they ran along the sides.

Street cars had under car exhaust and no roll bar.

SGT1171
Has the experience with the ROUSH SR engines been good? Just to understand a little better are the SR and IR engines included in the R engine category ( that were having problems). Or we're the problems pretty much withe the R only? Thanks. Or we're the problems pretty much withe the R only? Thanks. Most of what I read points to the 427R as the potentially troublesome one. Many owners have reported NO issues, though. The SR seems to be a lot more reliable and a more street friendly setup. As with any engine, the more power you try and squeeze out of it, the greater chance you have of rebuilding it sooner than later.

R & SR have different cam, IR has fuel injection (and I think you could get either cam) Note while they have a displacement of 427CuIn, they are what they call a "Small Block Ford" (SBF) in that the engine is, at heart, a 351 Windsor.
