Shelby Raptor Debuts

Recommended Posts

This truck is a great Shelby hauler as well. I recently sold my 08 F250 with the 5.4l gas motor in hopes of finding a 11 Raptor. This makes it more interesting if CS will take the earlier models,

While the Shelby Raptor is beautiful, it is going to be a tough sell against the Roush Raptor Stage 2 which comes with 590 HP S/C and just logo decals for $600 additional. Also, the Photoshop color changes of the same vehicle for the brochure (being done like the Shelby Focus) are kind of low budget. At least move the truck to different scenery and angles! But it is a sweet upgrade and glad to see it being offered. B)

SHELBY AMERICAN DELIVERS BIG POWER IN A BIG PACKAGE, UNVEILING THE ULTIMATE MUSCLE TRUCK AT NEW YORK AUTO SHOW

80231x-1.jpg

Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK), today unveiled the new Shelby Raptor, one of the most powerful, exciting and collectible off-road production trucks, during the New York International Auto Show. The Shelby Raptor marks the return of the Shelby muscle truck and is based on the 2013 Ford SVT Raptor with enhanced power and handling, topped with “Shelby Style” inside and out.

“As a native Texan, Carroll Shelby loved powerful trucks,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Carroll connected his love for trucks with his passion for performance on several projects, with the first one over 30 years ago. The latest Shelby truck was created to conquer any terrain with serious velocity.”

Shelby American takes the impressive Ford SVT Raptor and adds some “Shelby Magic” to create the ultimate muscle truck. By forcing air through a 2.9 liter supercharger mounted on the massive 6.2L V8 engine, and then out of the Shelby Borla exhaust system, Shelby American takes the stock 411 HP rating and kicks it up to 575 HP. A six-speed automatic transfers power to all four wheels and features a manual mode to give the driver complete gear selection control.

“Aerodynamically speaking, the Raptor was engineered for maximum performance,” said Gary Patterson, vice president of operations. “We spent our efforts improving the power, cooling and handling systems because every Shelby is built to excel under even the most extreme conditions.”

Equipped with 35-inch Goodrich All-Terrain tires and optional custom wheels, the Shelby Raptor stays connected to any ground it faces. The “Off-Road” mode calibrates the transmission, stability and traction control systems to operate in harmony under high-speed off-road situations. In addition, any of the three Shelby graphics packages (graphic package styling guide) will help set it apart from every other rig on the road.

“The Shelby Raptor was an absolute thrill to test across the Nevada desert,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American’s test driver. “The suspension system allows the Raptor to go over, around or through just about any obstacle. When more power is needed, just stroke the gas to spool up the supercharger and make the big tires rip.”

The post-title package starts at $17,995, not including the base Raptor. A limited production of 100 Shelby Raptors will be built per model year and each will be numbered and documented with a unique Shelby CSM number and entered into the official Shelby Registry.

80231x-6.jpg

“The Shelby American line up now has something for everybody,” added Luft. “We continue to offer the legendary Cobra sports car, along with our GTS, GT350, Super Snake and Shelby 1000 based on the current Ford Mustang and Ford Shelby GT500 vehicles. We took a page out of our history by bringing back Carroll’s beloved front wheel drive ‘pocket rocket’ with the Shelby Focus ST. Since Shelby American’s first official appearance was at the New York Auto Show over 50 years ago, it’s fitting that our ‘biggest and baddest’ product unveil of the year, the Shelby Raptor truck, would occur in Manhattan.”

That is why I want to see pictures of the interior, I think the Roush Supercharger is better and I prefer the Graphics of the Roush, not to mention it is $4K cheaper. I am hoping that $4k is used in the interior of the Shelby, but all I see is a picture of a CSM Plate. Can always go graphics delete, wonder if Shelby has a credit for that like Roush and Ford do??

Ditto. I feel the same way but I've never understood some of the more confusing business decisions Shelby has made in the past. For instance, when they started the "White Stripe option" on the 2011 Super Snake they said it was due to the big change Ford made with the aluminum block (5.4 iron to 5.4 Aluminum). I pointed out to Roger that the BIG difference was in 2010 with the body change and the 500 vs 540 HP rating upgrade. Just changing from iron to aluminum wasn't nearly as BIG as the changes from '09 to '10 (IMHO).

Looking at it through performance, I'd agree. Looking at it chemically, this is actually a big shift. Aluminum is a muuuuch better option to go with; all comes down to durability and of course weight, which swings in aluminum's favor. Not to mention cleaning the injectors is more efficient in aluminum; residues burn onto iron much easier than they do on aluminum, and when they do it comes right off. I always think of iron as clunky and aluminum as sophisticated (and titanium as otherworldly).

But aluminum is also harder to work with.

Not sure how old this comment is, but had to respond. :P

Any interior Pics yet, I am curious what they changed on the inside? I would more than likely get strip delete, not a fan of the graphics on the Raptor from ford or Shelby.

Or just do a google or yahoo search, just about every magazine has different images from pictures they took. Motortrend has a bunch.

Can you get a SuperCab instead of the Crew Cab they show?

I would assume you can get any of the 3. Regular Cab, Super Cab (SCAB) and Super Crew Cab (SCREW).

The front half of the 'splash graphics' would just need to be a little different for a Regular Cab vs a SCAB or SCREW.

They don't make regular cab Raptors. It has to be either a Super-Cab or Crew-Cab.

Ehhhhh?

I could swear I saw one...A 2010 Molton Orange one with the FRPP light bar and lights on the front. Did they used to make them and discontinued or was I stoned???

I gotta say that I have wished a couple of times that I bought a SCAB instead of a SCREW but primarily for the looks (and thinking there is a big weight diff. and shorter WB). However, I will say it IS nice to be able to stick 5 adults in my truck and run out to dinner with friends.

Yeah, just checked the Ford build site. The Regular cab is grayed out. And the WB is the same for a SCAB and SCREW, just a shorter bed on a SCREW. Which I'm GOOD with.

I have a 2010 Molten Orange SCAB I am trading in on for a SCREW. I need the extra towing capabilites. I have never seen a regular cab Raptor. All the advertising and all the ones that I have seen have been SCREW's for 2010. The Raptor started off with the 5.4L engine. Halfway through the 2010 model year, they started offering the 6.2L. In 2011, they came out with the SCREW.

Here is the wheel base for both:

133.3" SVT Raptor (5.5' box SuperCab)

145.2" SVT Raptor (5.5' box SuperCrew)

Okay, so I guess if you build a SCAB longbed, the wheelbase is the same? The build site showed me a SCAB vs SCREW but showed the two different beds. I'd love to have a longer bed but I got the best of both worlds with a bed extender, and was able to use the black bed topper from my King Ranch on my Raptor (which I had *just* spent $1300 on!).

10" is a lot of WB but a shorter WB gives you a harsher ride (freeway seems beat the hell out of you in a short WB vehicle) and is less stable at speed (think of a 300" WB dragster and why that is).

The grass is always greener!

You can only get 5.5' bed on the Raptor according to the specs chart.

Hmm. Lemme go try again....

It wouldn't be the first time the "build one" site was wrong (go build a GT500 and you'll see what I mean)!

Yep, you're right again. When you mouse over the cab is SHOWS both but when you chose a SCAB then mouse over the bed, the only bed it allows is the SB.

Thanks for the lesson!

I thought about getting a Raptor but I have no use for the pickup bed itself and as badass as the Raptor is I'd prefer an SUV with full interior I can use. The Grand Cherokee SRT is something I'm considering but like the 2002 Grand Cherokee I had the interior space is small. Now a Shelby Raptor is cool but I don't see why? Slapping a supercharger on it and Shelby badges how is this a Shelby? You can't do anything to the suspension or you just took away its purpose and to me the Raptor needed another 3-4" of lift.

I would rather see a Shelby Expedition something we can use everyday

I'd have one in my driveway instead of my Reg Cab truck that I own now!!

I tried like HE!! to find out when they first came out if they were going to do a reg cab.....when I learned NO...I bought the Tundra.
