SHELBY AMERICAN DELIVERS BIG POWER IN A BIG PACKAGE, UNVEILING THE ULTIMATE MUSCLE TRUCK AT NEW YORK AUTO SHOW

Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK), today unveiled the new Shelby Raptor, one of the most powerful, exciting and collectible off-road production trucks, during the New York International Auto Show. The Shelby Raptor marks the return of the Shelby muscle truck and is based on the 2011-2014 6.2L Ford SVT Raptor * with enhanced power and handling, topped with “Shelby Style” inside and out.

“As a native Texan, Carroll Shelby loved powerful trucks,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Carroll connected his love for trucks with his passion for performance on several projects, with the first one over 30 years ago. The latest Shelby truck was created to conquer any terrain with serious velocity.”

Shelby American takes the impressive Ford SVT Raptor and adds some “Shelby Magic” to create the ultimate muscle truck. By forcing air through a 2.9 liter supercharger mounted on the massive 6.2L V8 engine, and then out of the Shelby Borla exhaust system, Shelby American takes the stock 411 HP rating and kicks it up to 575 HP. A six-speed automatic transfers power to all four wheels and features a manual mode to give the driver complete gear selection control.

“Aerodynamically speaking, the Raptor was engineered for maximum performance,” said Gary Patterson, vice president of operations. “We spent our efforts improving the power, cooling and handling systems because every Shelby is built to excel under even the most extreme conditions.”

Equipped with 35-inch Goodrich All-Terrain tires and optional custom wheels, the Shelby Raptor stays connected to any ground it faces. The “Off-Road” mode calibrates the transmission, stability and traction control systems to operate in harmony under high-speed off-road situations. In addition, any of the three Shelby graphics packages (graphic package styling guide) will help set it apart from every other rig on the road.

80231x-5.jpg

“The Shelby Raptor was an absolute thrill to test across the Nevada desert,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American’s test driver. “The suspension system allows the Raptor to go over, around or through just about any obstacle. When more power is needed, just stroke the gas to spool up the supercharger and make the big tires rip.”

The post-title package starts at $17,995, not including the base Raptor. A limited production of 500* Shelby Raptors will be built per model year and each will be numbered and documented with a unique Shelby CSM number and entered into the official Shelby Registry.

80231x-6.jpg

“The Shelby American line up now has something for everybody,” added Luft. “We continue to offer the legendary Cobra sports car, along with our GTS, GT350, Super Snake and Shelby 1000 based on the current Ford Mustang and Ford Shelby GT500 vehicles. We took a page out of our history by bringing back Carroll’s beloved front wheel drive ‘pocket rocket’ with the Shelby Focus ST. Since Shelby American’s first official appearance was at the New York Auto Show over 50 years ago, it’s fitting that our ‘biggest and baddest’ product unveil of the year, the Shelby Raptor truck, would occur in Manhattan.”

Love it, but all I can say is :spend::spend::spend::shrug: Sorry, don't have the money so the perade goes on. At least all the TS members that buy the Shelbys wave and say Hi to me. Thank you TS members for being such wonderful down to earth people. Seeing the Shelbys up close and performing, well, I think is better than seeing any other car on this planet! Shelby, way to go on keeping Shelby's legacy going and growing. I tell you, I would be a dangerous man if I had money! Anyone think Fadi will be buying one?

Looks like a great opportunity to do something pretty unique with a Raptor! On a personal note, since it's based on the 2013/14 trucks, I can now stop losing sleep over whether or not to send my 2010 Raptor to Vegas for the upgrade.

Perfect Colorado Truck!!!! Now I really need the Powerball. I am so ready to sign up for one of these over anything else. I love it. Someday it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine! In my best Waynes World speak. Make mine Blue Flame truck with the Azure Blue Splash graphic.

Man I just bought a Ram about 6 months ago, although I love my Ram part of me wishes I went with the Raptor. The Ram rides much better and gas mileage is also much better, it would really be about the looks.

It is a Bad Ass Truck for sure!!!!!!!!!!

This is Outstanding, seems like a Decent Value as well.

Great Job Shelby!!!!!!!!!

Purdy Kool, but only the 2013-2014? Assuming that has to do with the engine. When was the 6.2L 1st offered in the Raptor?

6/2L was introduced in 2010 but standard equipment in 2011.

I've been eyeballin a 2011, just waiting for my Explorer to blow up so I can go truck shopping.

The 2011 up is identical...so not sure why they would limit the builds to 2013 - 2014?

I have a 2012 and was not happy to see it's for the '13 up.

$17K isn't *that* bad. I could swing it.

I've been waiting for Roush to finalize his Raptor package but having TWO SVT's (which I have now) AND TWO Shelby SVT's would be TOO COOL.

I have to wonder about that 2.9L supercharger though. I *thought* Roush uses a 2.3L TVS to get the same HP rating. Is that (2.9L) a typo/mistake or is Shelby really running a Whipple over a TVS?

Also, the wheels. Are they the Ford Racing bead-locks with CS centers or are they Shelby proprietary wheels? I just missed a full set of brand new '13 FRPP beadlocks on the Ford Raptor Forum for $2K, which is a real good price (although I have not checked with Tousley to see what they will sell them for).

@Robert Lane: Is this as it says, for '13 up ONLY or will Shelby American do it with a 2012...or maybe even a '11 MY for the '11 Raptor owners?

As of right now, my truck looks VERY similar to that Race Red Shelby Raptor pictured. I have a 2013 Race Red Super Crew Cab with the hood and side graphics on it. But they don't say "SHELBY"...Big Whoop. I can get the FRPP bead-locks and get even closer to the SR, aesthetically speaking. I can get a Roush (or Borla) exhaust, and a Roush (or Airaid) CAI intake, or bite the big one and get a full on Roush supercharger kit to get get the same BASIC principle as the SR. But it still wouldn't be a SHELBY Raptor, and $17K isn't really THAT MUCH more than what I would end up spending to get what Shelby is offering for $17K + change.

Needless to say, I LIKE! I just hope Shelby is going to be a little more flexible with the 1-year difference than they were with the Super Snake (2011 got a white stripe option but they flat out REFUSED to give it to me on my 2010 GT500).

Not saying I *WOULD* upgrade my 2012 Raptor if they bend but I sure would be MORE inclined to do it.

My wife is gonna SHIT when I hit her with this one!

Ditto. I feel the same way but I've never understood some of the more confusing business decisions Shelby has made in the past. For instance, when they started the "White Stripe option" on the 2011 Super Snake they said it was due to the big change Ford made with the aluminum block (5.4 iron to 5.4 Aluminum). I pointed out to Roger that the BIG difference was in 2010 with the body change and the 500 vs 540 HP rating upgrade. Just changing from iron to aluminum wasn't nearly as BIG as the changes from '09 to '10 (IMHO).

They didn't buy that one either! <lol>

The whipple 2.9 is elligible for the 2010-2013 Rapter with the 6.2L, so it wouldn't be because of what the supercharger is rated for?

Nahh, I don't need her permission. No need for that at all.

We do our own separate thing with our money. She has hers and I have mine (although I pay all of the bills).

But I'd still have to listen to her BITCH at me every chance she got. She'd rather buy a car for one of our kids, or pay for a big family trip to Disneyland. Where as me, I'm stingy and selfish and I want to spend my money on......Well, on ME (i.e. Toys)!

Earplugs are cheap!

Congrats. SAI on listening to our blogs on a Shelby Raptor,i sure hope that it takes off better than the F150 Supersnake truck! To my poor Ram owner who likes his truck but likes the badass look of the raptor....get one!!!! I had a brief brain fart last year and bought a 2012 ram sport after i sold my 2010 6.2 supercab Raptor...... Bad mistake! The Ram is smooth on ride, totally gutless in the power department and horribly poor on gas. Please do yourself a favour and buy the real McCoy and enjoy!!!

Although the Whipple used in the Shelby build(2.9L) giving 575hp i think o read, why is it not more? I was researching superchargers for my 2012 and all i have seen is the Whipple giving 635hp (flywheel) maybe Shelbys is at the rear wheels?! I decided to go with the Roush TVS 2300 with their 590 hp (flywheel) for mine.....install by my Ford dealer next week!

Then i will be one very happy camper!!!!!
