I like it but I do think they have priced it out of most of they younger buyers. If were able to offer $4,000 package through the dealers for the exterior vinyl and wheels. They would have a better chance of getting the younger guys interested. Then 5 to 10 years from now maybe they would drop some coin for a Shelby with a CSM.

And where is the next generation getting $42,000 - $45,000 to dump into a car? I don't see many parents dropping $40,000 plus on this car for junior. With $10,000 down, and financing the balance, the payment is close to $600 a month!!! Pretty huge nut for a Focus. Some of the younger members here might like them, but they sure are "blingy."

I wish Shelby success, but like the GTS, I don't see a huge market at all.

I have to agree on this one with you Springer.

Geeze - what a bunch of old farts on here! :hysterical: News flash guys - the target demographic for this car ARE NOT on this forum (for the most part). We already drive Mustangs so this car would be a significant downgrade (for us). Shelby is actually doing us a huge favor here. Anything to get the next generation fired up about an AMERICAN performance car instead of a rice burner :barf:

is a very good thing. Who is going to buy our cars when we all have titanium knees and polymer hips and the doc says no more clutches? :fear:

I guess the main issue many have expressed here with respect to the Shelby Focus is not with the car itself, but rather with its price point, especially considering the intended demographic. At this price point, a bump in power should at least be included, along the line of the power output of the previous generation Europe only Focus RS which was also FWD.

Based on the few articles that I saw regarding the Shelby Focus, including the one linked below, the $15K conversion price includes no modification to the stock engine output.

A $15K handling and appearance package may be OK on a car already priced at around $60K, but on a $25K car, it represents almost 40% of the overall price of the converted car which would not make sense to me, even if I were a few years younger. Having said that, I hope that I'm wrong and that they will sell well.

Where is the $$ coming from? Don't know. But have you been to a college campus lately and seen what the students are driving?

And what is a BASE mustang price point?

Compared to what comes out of the Shelby shop? :shades:

I see your point. I'm not sure though that the Shelby GTS package which is the package destined to a base Mustang sells at a rate of 500 units a year, which is the volume Shelby seems to target for the Focus ST. My point was simply that if you offer a package destined to more expensive vehicles (likely owned my more affluent buyers), a $15K price increase should be an easier sell. The same is true whether the $25K car is an ST Focus or a BASE Mustang.

But you can build a Base V6 GTS Mustang for $32K and have a really nice Shelby Mustang. The fuel mileage is pretty darn negligible with only 1 mpg difference on the highway. That's all in the driver on either car. My buddy with his ST has been averaging 23 mpg and is not too happy. Of course he drives like me so....... Now the 4 door family mobile does hold some weight for sure. I would love to have the Focus ST, but completely out of the question when compared to the GTS Mustang for me. I'm waiting for the 2015 Mustang, then I'll see what package is available when Shelby get's that figured out. Hopefully the GTS package will continue to the 2015. Hey I want Shelby to succeed far into the future, just think there may have been a better plan with some more options for the entry level guy.

How much is a Ford Focus ST?

And then there is the dealer markup! This is going to be a very tough sell in a competitive pocket rocket market.

Maybe it is targeted forthose older folks who want to keep the super Shelby toys in the garage for the weekends and use this for the daily driver.

Where is the $$ coming from? Don't know. But have you been to a college campus lately and seen what the students are driving?

I can tell you that unless a spoiled student is attending an Ivey league school, a lot of middle class college students were driving what they could while trying to qualify for financial aid. Those that could not get finacial aid were paying big $ a unit per simester. So I think the Idea for appealing a younger generation is a poor choice to design a car for. The same goes for Ford in redesigning the Mustang. This country needs to stop relying on cheep labor and moving businesses out of the country and make the U.S.A in a whole priority over any other country. By the way, I do not believe this gas crap they throw at us. Oh, and it should not be new to us, look what happened in th 70's. Then came the 80's. The 90's got better and up till today, performance has been unbelieveable, only to repeat the 70's way of thinking again.

SGT for a Focus, Bad trade!! :finger:

I'm too close to having my SGT paid for. It's not going anywhere. However, the wife is due for an upgrade so if I can talk her into it this seriously may be an option.

I agree its a bit steep when look at from a strict form and function perspective but as its been debated here many times many times when you invest in a Shelby you are getting much more than the sum of its parts.

One thing think that everyone is missing is the limit of 500 cars (if they sell that many) and I don't mean from a collector stand point.

Shelby is linked closely with Ford, and Ford isn't going to gain much from 500 cars, but the excitement a Shelby Focus has and will generate is priceless for both brands. How many more Focuses (Foci?) will Ford sell if potential buyers know they can purchase genuine Shelby Performance Parts for it? How much more will Shelby add to their bottom line selling those parts?

There is a bigger picture here.

You gotta be kidding me?

This is what is left of Carroll's legacy?

If they had not cremated CS & split his ashes 5 different ways he would be rolling over in his grave right now -

Given that this "thing" will be a post-title car I am guessing that FoMoCo agrees -

:eek5:

TOTALLY WRONG. This is a very cool thing. CS would be very pleased. I for one would liked to have seen a Scooped Hood though, maybe something like the KR.

While I'm not going to even quote the disrespectful post that my reply is directed to, but let me say the Shelby Focus was in development for quite a while before Carroll's passing and had input directly from Carroll.

Anyone that knew Carroll, knows how much Carroll loved his days working with high performance FWD cars in the 1980's and was very proud to have put his name on those cars. The same is true for the Shelby Focus. I'm confident that Carroll is very proud that the Shelby Focus has come to fruition.

I really like the new Shelby Focus ST. I wish SAI alot of luck in their new market place.

BUT, I know the market place they are trying to get into is for the younger crowd. It maybe a little over price.

I have 2 kids, that are (25 and 22) they have good paying jobs. I can't see them paying $ 27,000 - $28,000 for the Focus ST, then telling them a upgrade to a Shelby Focus ST is another $ 14,995.00 and then they have to wait 3 to 4 months (maybe) to get it back - that's a hard sell.

Is a Focus in the Hertz rental fleet? May be something to consider in 2016 celebrating Shelby, Hertz 50 year relationship but with a more of an eco spin as who knows what the restrictions will be then. Change is constant and this is no exception. I think its kinda cool. Days of the GLH, Go Like Hell.

Will be interesting to see how sales go and what the actual demographic of the buyers is. Everyone is spectulating that the 18 - 25 group is the target demographic but that group doesn't have the cash necessary to buy one of them. Might turn out to be the over 50 crowd that puts their GT500 up on blocks for the winter and wants something to tool around town in.

I personally would have liked to seen a Shelby Fusion GTR. This car has broad appeal to more age groups, great looks and style, above avg EPA mileage to satisfy the Eco movement , seats 5, big trunk, NASCAR uses it.. Bottom line, I basically want to buy everything Shelby currently produces. I am sure this car is a blast to drive but a $40k Focus is not on the bucket list. Just saying...

I agree with keeping your beautiful SGT and if you have the funds for another, the ST would be a very special DD for your wife. thumb.gif

Based on cost I'd say the 18-25 demographic wouldn't be the prime market for this. I can see it being more of a 25-35 range. Young enough to still have to justify practicality yet want to drive something cool & unusual. Old enough to have heard of & maybe experienced the Ford Escort Cosworth of the 90's - the true ancestor of the hot Focus.

No sorry, since 2007, when NASCAR forced Car of Tomorrow standards on all racers, the bodies of all the NASCAR cars regardless of marquee are identical, just different paint and decals. And that certainly isn't some EcoBoost engine under the hood of the "Fusion" decals either.

This can be discussed in the NASCAR thread, but you need to take a look at this years cars, the body's of the three marquees are now quite different. At least they are going in a better direction. There are three very different templates now used. Should be 4, hopefully Dodge will come back in next year.

This is off topic, but the body they are using on the current Ford NASCAR racers is not a stock, factory manufactured Fusion body and not even close. Nobody should be fooled, these are not the same as in the old days when they had to use stock factory bodies on the cars and when NASCAR was fun, just my opinion on that last one... :salute:
