Wow, sorry to hear about this. We enjoyed reading about when you brought her home and and all the excitement. Now this unfortunate development (ugh) ...hope everything works out OK.

Had to avoid a drunk driver last night in the GT500 who was driving next to us and swerving. The wife told me to floor it and get away from him, don't worry about a ticket. Didn't have to tell me twice :-)

Tony,

After all the waiting for the car, to have this happen is just a heart breaker. Trust me, I can certainly empathize with you how you must be feeling and the emotional hangover you must be suffering. I know it seems insignificant now, but thank God you're okay and can concentrate on the car and not have to worry about yourself as well.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

John

Thanks everyone. I actually feel worse today (mentally) then yesterday. It really blows that I am forced into making what could be a costly decision about the car. I am my legal counsel will do the best the can for me but this is a huge pia. I deserve an unmolested, uncarfaxed car but I know it might be another year and in the end will cost me more money.

Having the car fixed will also cost me money in a decreased current and future value vs an unrepaired car.

Do I have any chance of getting out of this w/o opening my wallet some more? It not really about the money but it is about what is right and wrong.

I have agreed value coverage on my policy for the car. Any chance I get full value from my insurance and they go after Geico and the driver?

Like twoshelbys said above. What about the diminished value of the car. How can that even be determined with such a small sample size?

What a friggin' mess!

Thanks again guys and gals. It means a lot to me. Kinda like a big Prozac dosage.

What a heart-breaking situation, Tony. I don't know what I'd do in your shoes. Carfax has too much sway over the value of our cars, much like Experian and Equifax have too much influence over our perceived "worth".

Played right though, you could be the first to own two new GT350's...

I am a farmer in SW Iowa and I really feel terrible about your car. The best place to get it fixed it probably at Shelby American in Las Vegas. I have #86 which is to be done sometime in February. I will give up my slot if they could fix your car in place of finishing mine. Talk to Roger and see what the possabilities are. Dan

Dan

That is a wonderful jesture but I could never accept. I have had a chance with the car and others should as well. The car is good - very good. The car worth waiting for - even if it is my second. Things will get sorted out and I'll be patient again. Besides, I can't drive a car here until April anyway. I'm a proud member of TS and honored by your offer.

Sincerely,

Tony

good luck. this is a post title car, Ins. may only give you value of a normal mustang gt. i hope it works out for you.

I guess it is possible on the Geico side but the car is registered with the state of Pa and insured with agreed value on my insurance as a Shelby GT350. I will wait to see what transpires over the next few days between insurance companies and my legal representation.

You could be right. It might be possible but not probable. I'll be happy with one undamaged car.

Bummer about the car, but at least it wasnt someones life that was lost.

Anywho why was the kid distracted? Phone call, texting, radio, checking out a girl/guy...................picking his nose :hysterical: ?

I didn't ask and it didn't matter. The kid felt like shit and was visibly upset and embarrassed. In my 26 years of driving I have never had an accident - on the street, or on the track - so I felt bad for the kid - and for me. What's done was done and getting pissed would honestly be unproductive. At the moment of impact, I was just hoping everyone was ok. However, after calling my wife, my second call was to Roger to begin planning my next move. Not only a type A but I guess with OCD too. :hysterical:

Wow, I wouldn't have the words to express how something like this would make me feel. If it's not totaled I would think that the only way to have this properly repaired it to return to Shelby. I'm sure they have a local shop in Vegas they work with to straighten any sheetmetal, and then let them handle the rest.

I aways avoid routes where traffic and drivers are are particularly moronic (not that your situation would have been avoided by doing the same,) because my mental state cannot handle it.

Hey, if you get two 350s in the end of all this, I would like to make a sugestion. I think you should save this 350 and give it to your daughter when she turns 16. Forget about the resale value, give it to your girl. Thats what I would do. Again, good luck to you.

WOW, what a nice gesture sir (Dan) :salute: .

Tony, at minimum, demand the car be fixed by SAI.

I do think having the repair done by SAI will affect the cars value if that is a future concern. As many have said, I also have enjoyed your journey home with the car and your daughter and now this pain. Good luck and I will sure be watching this thread.

Today will be a pia. Having to talk to a relive the mess with both insurance companies, my attorney, the body shop (that was very kind enough to open the shop Saturday to put the car inside - but might not actually fix the car) and Roger and crew. Trying to stay rational and level headed. Wish me luck.

So sorry to hear about this. Good luck with everything and thanks for sharing your amazing journey home with us.

At least you got a wonderful 3500 miles out of her and plus like you said before the weather up here in the north east is horrible so you wouldn't have much time to drive it anyway. I'm sure if not the insurance companies, SA will do the right thing by you and help you out.

Fixing it is always an option, and your choice. I completely disagree with having SAI do the collision repair, as they are NOT collision repair specialists. As my very good friend (and likely the best collision repair specialist in the state) told me about one of my cars..."if it's not shaped like a banana, I CAN FIX IT"...and he did.

I had a collectible automobile get into a severe collision, and although they could fix it...I opted not to. The insurance company knew I was entitled to diminished value even before i muttered the words. In my case, repairing the car+diminished value+rental exceeded the amount of replacement, but the choice was still mine to make.

who determines diminished value? if Geico is unwilling to total the car (only 50k - that all the coverage the kids has) then what chance do i have that the will come up with a fair diminished value? what is that value? %30?

what a mess
