There was also more than one Van at the School and some may have been in different Livery than the one pictured.

Thanks, also does anyone know what the actual shade of Blue that is? It looks a little like Guardsman Blue.

I have several Photos of them but can't find one of them........ The First one is a Dark Blue & White with no Red Stripe and Side Windows. The second one is a medium Blue with Red Stripe, Side Windows and different writing on back. The third one is a medium Blue with Red Stripe, no Side Windows and Aluminum Mag Wheels. The last one is the same one at the top of this thread, medium Blue, Red Stripe, no Side Windows and Steel Wheels with Dog Dish Hub Caps. The one I can't find right now is just like the last one but WITH Side Windows (it might be another photo of the second one).

You do realize that Carroll has said that there was really no "true" Guardsman Blue, they painted the color that was delivered to them that day by the cheapest supplier. They were close but never one particular color.

OK, does this Blue look close enough to Guardsman Blue?

Yep, I think you might be right.....................

It is difficult to determine a color from a photograph especially blue and even more so with metallic blue. You could have sent 100 different people to photograph that vehicle “back in the day” and you would have ended up with 100 different exposures. On top of that, as someone previously mentioned “back in the day” they pretty much ran to the local hardware or paint supplier and bought what they needed and it wasn’t kept track of very well in regard to color or brand. PPG was a dominant paint supplier back then and they did have a color called “Viking Blue” but it doesn’t look anything like the Viking blue you have of the Cobra pictured in your post#10. On top of that, unless you know when that photo was taken it could be just about any shade of medium blue metallic and even within the several vans they had there were different shades. And even on top of that, due to the age of the film or video you would have color fading due to aging and oxidation of the media. I don’t know if it is much help or not, but the Shelby Team if I recall correctly originally ran Viking blue in 1964 on the Daytona Coupe and then ran guardsman blue in 1965 but that doesn’t mean the vans were painted to match.

Also, many people don’t know it, but at the Carroll Shelby Racing School they also ran the Austin Healy “Bugeye” Sprite as a trainer. There was one restored and sold a while back and it was restored in Viking Blue. I am not saying it was originally Viking blue, it was restored in Viking blue. Here is linky to a color picture of a Bugeye and another picture of a Shelby Van and a Bugeye together but the photo is B&W.

If you are trying to match that shade of blue for some reason, then your best bet is to print out a high quality print of the photo you have and take it to a paint shop/paint store and have them scan it for color matching…..You really have way too many variables. In other words, unless somebody comes forward that actually had or has some kind of records or a dated photograph with some kind of documentation you are probably beating a dead horse.
