melissa809
Hello I went to Ford today where they took care of my airbag recall and changed my oil. The bill said 8 quarts and i immediately questioned it The mechanic showed me his computer that said my car takes 8 quarts without a filter change and 8.5 with a new filter. My bill shows a new filter, btw. Anyways..he popped the hood and checked my oil in front if me..it is exactly center of the 2 dots. At 8.5 quarts my oil level on the dipstick is quite high. I ordered a quart of motorcraft 5/50 oil Should i just go ahead and top it off with a half quart? Also...and i am ocd about my car..but, should i worry about the 20 miles i drove home in my car with ONLY 8 quarts of oil??? Thanks in advance Melissa
TexasShelby
From your pic I'm guessing you have an 07/08, with the 5.4l? No major engine mods? With a new filter the engine holds 6.5 quarts. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but there is no way you can put 8 quarts in this engine. If you are between the dots, you are perfectly good to go. See image below. Great color btw....;-)
TexasShelby
BTW, if they charged you for 8 quarts, I'd be talking to someone about a refund. I've always used K&N HP-2010 filters on mine since new. Got it in 06, just turned over 50K miles.
Don Johnston
Oil capacity is different for different Ford engines and years. Check you drivers manual. I believe that the dealer is correct in what they did for your 2013 GT500. BIKEBOY
Yeah, looks like Melissa's avatar does not coincide with her OP. Same holds true for both cars as it relates to the dipstick however. Edited April 23, 2017 by BIKEBOY
shack
After one of my oil changes I got home and noticed the invoice said 8 or 9 quarts of oil. Since I have a 2008 GT500 which takes 6.5 quarts, immediately called the dealer to ask. Service technician was thinking it was the 5.8L engine instead of 5.4L and put in 8.5 quarts of oil. Needless to say, I drove back where they drained it all and put in only 6.5 quarts, with a nice refund.
