stephen_becker
1999 Shelby Series1. CSX # 5257 -The only car designed from a clean sheet of paper and engineered and built from the ground up by Carroll Shelby. In the late 1990s Carroll Shelby decided to build a sports car from scratch. In years past, the Shelby’s that built his legendary status as an automotive icon were all improvements to an existing design. These included the AC Ace (which became the Shelby CSX Cobra), the Ford Mustang (which morphed into the Shelby GT350/GT500/GT500KR) and modifications of various Chrysler products like the GLH, Viper, among others. Carroll Shelby had never built a performance car from the ground up, until he designed the 1999 Shelby Cobra Series 1. A luxury sports car roadster priced, when new, at over $150,000 and one of only 249 handmade by Carroll at his Nevada Motor Speedway shop. The engine is derived from the Indycar aluminum Aurora Northstar V8 used by the Indy Racing League in the early 2000s. It is a DOHC 4.0 Liter sequential fuel injected aluminum block and aluminum headed V8 located aft of the front inboard suspension. For insurance purposes and to meet the federal government's safety mandates, the engine was under-rated at 320hp but is reputed to produce over 400hp. The ZF 6-speed transmission is located forward of the rear suspension. The aft positioning of the engine and forward positioning of the transaxle results in a mid-engine design for neutral handling. The frame is high strength extruded T6 aluminum to which the carbon fiber body panels are attached. This low-weight, mid-engine design produces a car weighing a mere 2,800 lbs with 50/50 weight distribution. The racecar-derived suspension is an inboard pushrod rocker-arm design with adjustable coil over springs and shocks. Brakes are huge power assisted discs fore and aft, and steering is power rack & pinion. 100 percent stainless steel exhaust built by Borla to Shelby's specs. Wheels are forged alloy 3-piece modular. Leather interior with power windows, mirrors and door locks, air conditioning, tilt steering column, keyless entry and premium Monsoon AM/FM//CD/cassette stereo with power antenna. Does 0-60 in 4 seconds and has a top speed of 180+mph. Clean CARFAX history report, never damaged, no paintwork, collector owned and cared for since new - 100% factory original and with only 3,861 actual miles. Incredible car & a great investment. $ 109,950.00 FOB Las Vegas, NV / Stephen Becker (770) 900 5532 / stephenbecker@bellsouth.net
