alexmadison
According to the FCC and the 4 major wireless carriers TXT to 911 is going to become a reality in 2014. Has anybody here used it yet or know of anyone how has? The top four wireless carriers in the U.S. have agreed to speed up their efforts to support text-to-911 capabilities, making it available by May 15, 2014.Text-to-911 service is currently available on a limited basis in a few areas. twobjshelbys
Text messaging can be useful in fringe areas. In the mountains we have spots where the network won't connect a voice link but a text message will. If GPS is on the phone then the text will give location. On another front I was at a site today where the conference room IT notice had as part of the suppor tthat if you need to call for emergency you have to dial 9-911. The "9" prefix is under a suit that would require private PBXs (particularly, hotels) to directly connect 911 calls outside the PBX. This is due to the fact that a woman died when they were at a hotel and the small child understood calling 911 (great training) but the PBX blocked the call because the prefix of 9 wasn't dialed. I heartily agree with this!!!
