NMAv
Has anyone else burned through multiple batteries? My car is just 3 years old this month. 3800 miles and it has had two totally dead (DOA) batteries. The first they covered under warranty, the second cost me $129. I will implement the trickle charger going forward but my question is, is this a common problem? Is it a battery issue? I have an Escort radar system (9500xi), a backup camera, Boss 302 gauge pod with gauges. Apart from that, there is no extra draw on the system. barspen
Sounds a bit odd...but I noticed you don't have many miles, so I wonder if the battery is slowing draining and losing it's ability to keep a charge. My 2011 has needed 1 new battery in 3 years...I'm at 40K miles (mines a DD). I use a Noco battery charger if it sits for more than a couple days and I pop the hood in the summer (in my garage) to let some of the trapped heat out. AZ summers are known to eat up batteries. You might want to invest in a battery tester (I use a SOLAR BA7) so you don't get stuck. I check its health every couple months.
1 Alibi 2
My friends low mileage 2011 needed a battery after winter storage last season, I thought it was because he didn't start it in 5 months. He has no extra electronics installed that I know of. . My 2011 gets driven or started each week. axo250
On my 2011, I have noticed that the battery gets weak (still cranks) after about a month's time. If not driving it, I put it on the Battery Tender every 2-3 weeks. I have not had to replace a battery yet. Keep in mind that simply cranking the car and idleing it in the garage does not provide a good charge. It takes some time and higher alternator outputs to really start charging a weak battery. bpodner
Factory battery here. I don't have to worry about long term storage and start her at least once a month. No extra draw on mine.
William Dixon 14413
Check out this battery tender at Amazon CTEK Multi US 7002 12V Battery Charger. I have used this one for 2 years now. It has two interchangeable connecter cables one direct wires to the battery. I still have the factory battery starts every time. When the Shelby is parked I keep it plugged in. motorjock205
These cars do have a significant battery draw even while sitting idle...radio settings, alarms, etc....My 2008 SGT would go dead after sitting for a couple of weeks when I was traveling for work. As a daily driver, I never had any problems...just leaving them sitting, put them on a Battery Tender Trickle Charger and all will be good until you are ready to drive it again...
