JeffJ
What would you like to know about them? Being a technical inspector for Grand Am, there's very little that I haven't dealt with on these cars. I can also tell you all the tricks to make them quite a bit faster above and beyond the rules after all the fines and penalties we've issued this year. JeffJ
Yea, you can write a book on the subject. Do some look up on the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge. That is where the first FR500S Mustang came about specifically for this racing series. When that series was ended last year, the FR500S was allowed to compete in the SCCA World Challenge and multiple NASA classes. The FR500S was born again in the Boss302S which is raced in the SCCA World Challenge. There are a few members here that own ex Mustang Challenge FR500S cars for track day cars. There are two full race Boss302 cars. The Boss302S and then the Boss302R which is the car for the Grand Am Continental Challenge GS series. This car was also born out of the continuation from the FR500R model which was the previous Grand Am Koni/Continental Challenge race car based on the 2005-2009 Body style that used the "Cammer" 5.0 engine. The FR500S used the 4.6 sealed Roush tuned engine. The Boss302S and R models are also sealed 5.0 Roush Tuned engines with some differences, but they are both based on the new 5.0 Coyote engine. I was lucky to be one of the two main Grand Am Tech and Pit Lane Officials to work the Mustang Challenge series as that series was sanctioned by Grand Am. Such great times! I really miss that series, but am also very happy to get to work the Grand Am Continental Challenge races where the Boss302R's race. The first thing to know about all these cars is that these are factory built race cars. No VIN #, not street legal. The rest is an unlimited amount of information depending on what you are looking for. Tons of history there. These will all be great collectibles in the future as Ford was the only US manufacturer out there building a full factory built race car. There's also the FR500CJ (Cobra Jet drag car) built along the same lines. All these cars were purchased through Ford parts. The completed cars are just a part number in the catalog. Another very cool thing about these cars. You can learn a lot all over the internet, but here's a good place to start: http://www.fordracingparts.com/competition/default.asp Anything special you want to know, I'll try to answer for you. I love Watson! They are a bunch of great guys who'll sit with you all day chatting about what they do - and what they want to do. I'm in the process (planning stages still) of having them install a roll cage in the SGT to finish off its "track ready" appearance. They keep talking me into that new 46X 5.0L motor too...
