CSX4833
A total of 8 people at an 8:10pm showing. Finding seats wasn't a problem. What a disappointment. The plot was bad, the driving was nowhere close to reality, and indeed Selena looked very young. Ethan Hawk must have shifted 40 times in a 15 second span. What a waste. I can only hope the GT500 gets another shot with a better director next time. No way this movie comes close to breaking even.

dh777
Jer said there were multiple cars used a real SS and some cars dressed as one. Pretty comon in movies to use 1 high quality car (known as a "hero" car) for the close ups and shots where it has to look good, and then other cars often built for specific purposes (jumps, slides, crashes, etc...) The Dukes of Hazzard movie used a bunch of different Chargers, one which had a full roll cage complete with all the driver controls on the roof where the real driver (Rhys Millens if I recall correctly) would do stunt driving while the actors were inside the car acting like they were driving for POV shots. Yes - If there was even a GT 500 around then they should have at least used it for the close up shots of the tach and speedometer. Every dash I saw in the whole movie had polished dashboard trim. There were plenty of opportunities in close up shots to use the right car. You can even look at the movie trailer. The dash and gauges are not a GT500. I never saw a GT500
Bill Hamilton
After reading this I think I'll just wait until its on TV or Netflix. I was afraid after seeing this movie on the first day at the first matinee showing, that it would beat me home and be showing on TBS when I got there. And I'm certainly not going to subject myself to that trailer again. Jer said they used a real SS for some of it, barring the possibility he's full of shit, there are a number of possible reasons they didn't use it for certain shots. Off the top of my head, they could have been 2nd or 3rd unit shots (inserts often are) and the car wasn't available to them because 1st unit was using it. Maybe they were shot before they got the car in hand or after it left.
NordicShelby
I took Savannah on Friday we drove the Boss to see it.....She fell asleep within 15 minutes. I found myself seriously doozing off and then pinching myself to wake up. I am trying to turn a new leaf and be as positive as possible so I am not going to give anymore comments on the movie. :heartbreaker:
thewheelman
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! It's called "entertainment"! It's not supposed to be an accurate representation of anything except the director's vision! Remember how NASTY Cole Trickel's face was after the Daytona 500 in Days of Thunder? I haven't seen a driver that dirty since Jr. Johnson ran moonshine! You'll also recall that all the world now believes that Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds was exactly the way all GT 500's of that era looked. And how 'bout that classic Driven, with Sly Stallone, about F1 racing? Wasn't that the most accurate depiction of racing you've ever seen? Even Bullit, which we all believe should have been an Academy Award winner......I've driven most of the chase route......in bits and pieces.....'cause that's the way it was filmed! And I never could get my 390 to sound like Steve's when he was double clutching....... The only thing that really matters is that it brings the car (or sport, in the case of Days of Thunder) to the attention of the masses! They may walk out saying that was a lousy movie, but man, that car was cool! Enjoy, relax, enjoy, chill, wind down, relax, enjoy! It's just entertainment! LOL! Even a BAD movie is better than 2 hours of mowing grass, or whatever chore you despise!

mywickedshelby
I'm a gearhead as much as the next guy here on TS, but a car won't make me run to the theatre to be the first guy in line....reviews are what I expected, and confirms that i'll wait until it shows up on HBO/Showtime etc., to view it... ditto. Cobramach1
I didn't go in expecting much so therefore I wasn't disappointed either. I was smart enough to go during a matinee. I had to chuckle because aside from myself there was about 6 or 7 other single guys in the theatre and one couple came in. Hopefully it wasn't a date movie! If you want to see a good car movie at the theatre I recommend seeing Snake and Mongoose if it comes to your town. I enjoyed that movie quite a bit. JeffJ
The movie features a real SS and many other stand-ins. They bought all their parts for the stand-ins from SPP, by the way. My wife is a nurse and I cannot tell you how many times she commented how wrong medical shows are like ER, or greys anatomy. I use to drive a semi and pick out mistakes all the time when I see big rigs on the big screen. Same with everything else. Be glad, like Gone In 60 Seconds, that a Mustang, er, Shelby was used to further aware the public that Shelbys are out there and that they can go out and buy one. Steve.Madrid
Went and saw it last weekend with my wife and son. I agree with everyone that it is not a 'good' movie but I think we probably all knew that going in. I would say that the first shot of the car in the garage was the real SS (hero car) and I heard a few bits of supercharger whine in the early parts of the movie. My 15 year old son pointed out that he didn't hear the whine in all the car chase scenes and they must have been the mock ups. I will admit that from the first shot of the car going thru the swingarm gate and every bump, rub and ding I literally cringed and my wife said every now and then I muttered 'poor car...' but I will not confirm or deny. So if you go, go and enjoy it for what it is worth...a Shelby (or replicas) on the big screen. Not a great movie but then again.....if the hero car had been a 2008 Vista Blue Shelby GT, the movie would have won an Oscar in every category.... shelbymotorsports
Went over to the Southpoint Casino Tuesday night to catch this flick, as Tuesday's are $5 movie day, and am so glad I passed on attending the premier in Westwood, CA. Pretty much agree with everyone's take on this movie and I so much wanted to like it but the bad outweighed the good. Although there was a real SS used for some "hero shots" this real SS was not built/purchased for the movie, the production company located a real SS and worked out a deal with its owner for use in the movie. All the other Super Snake cars used in the movie were clones or should we call them "stand-in's". I suspect we will not see a Getaway II anytime soon. Phill No he lives in a pretty nice neighborhood that turns into a spectacular neighborhood up the street since it goes up on top of a hill and the houses and lots get much bigger. Dad's a former national pres of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, so he's really into the "brass era" cars. This is me, my friend sitting shotgun, and my bro in the back seat. I've probably logged about 400 miles in the '10 T. Dad bought it from Bill Harrah and restored it from about 1971 to about 1985 or so when he completed it. Original engine and trans in that sucker. The owner had it at Butts Pontiac in Seaside CA for some work on the NOS air cleaner to hood seal (foam) replacement. He was the President or Vice President of Pontiac Corporation, or something like that. With only 8 of those cars ever produced (4 MT and 4 AT), I'm surprised to hear of another. They are just THAT rare. Perhaps it's the same car, and it was sold? Or the same guy, who moved??? Your sig says "Pacific Coast" but it doesn't say where or what area of the Pac. Coast. 08jester
I won't get into it much - but I had a hard time believing that the base car was even a GT500. It may have been "dressed" somewhat properly, but there are a few split seconds where you can see hints of a Mustang other than a GT500. ---- Just a lot of technical issues I pick up on. Yep..... noticed that myself. Most of the scenes were using a modified GT. Check out the bumpers and interior nor did I hear much of a whine if any from a super charger through most of the chases. Some of the chase scenes were pretty cool. I thought the movie was ok, not much of a plot and I think they overdid the chasing and crashing.
