AMP is supposed to be a blast. What were your most favorite parts, how challenging and overall how is the facility? It looks like a rollercoaster ride!

Sounds to me like someone did not go to sleep last night after a day at the track - :drop:

A bunch of fast cars, no speed limits - it was the most fun I've had with my clothes on in a long while! :happy feet:

I think I've got the photo posting thing almost figured out so here's a couple more.

I've seen that Ultima GTR on TV before. They were filming a show on SPEED (can't remember the name) in ATL and that guy had his car on the show. I've often wondered what it would be like to drive an Ultima around the track. Bet it was fast...

AMP is a great place to enjoy your car to whatever limits you want to push it. They have only been open for a year and are on schedule towards building a very nice facility that will be capable of providing a great driving experience as well as being very family friendly. The karting facility on site is really cool and provides a unique diversion from the "big cars". The "shifter" karts are insanely fast! They have on site garages available with more on the way, full service performance shop (Balanced Performance) on site, full service racing equipment and parts store (Discovery Parts) on site, a member clubhouse with air conditioned (that goodness!) lounge and outside deck and control tower. Velocity Motorsports is also on site and provides an "exotic car" driving experience where you can drive different Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches or a Nissan GTR either as a passenger or with a professional instructor kind of like Exotics Racing in Las Vegas. Future plans for the members include a playground, pool, Starbucks, etc..

The track itself is 1.8miles with very nice driving surface, a challenging mix of turns, elevation change, wide sweeping carousel turn and a nice straightaway in front of the pit/viewing area. Plenty of pit area and parking. It is not a wide open, super high speed track like Road Atlanta, but strictly observed and enforced passing rules mean you don't have to worry about someone bumping fenders with you just to shave 2/10ths of a second off their lap times. Like any road course - turning a fast lap requires concentration, preparing the car and knowing the course and reading the conditions, but it is easy to have fun without worrying about breaking the car.

One question about this track compared to road Atlanta . Back in 2011 Cadillac had some high speed driving with instructors @ Road Atlanta and some of us were hitting 140 mph on the back straight. What are the speeds @ the straight in front of the start finish line ? The track is not to far from where I live, got to go see it. What gears were you using mostly ?

Thanks

You know I honestly didn't look at the speedometer on the straight. This was my first full day at the track & I spent all my seat time just feeling what the car was doing and setting up for the turns. The only time I looked at the dash was to check RPMs but I would guestimate 105-110 on the straight which is about .6miles coming out of the carousel turn before the hard left at turn 1. I had Harry's lap timer on my iPhone but I was so busy with other stuff I never even used it. My next time out should be a weekday when there wont be so many other cars so I'll get to play with a few gadgets next time. Really want to mount the GoPro just behind the front tires to see what they're doing in the turns.

Best rule of thumb is to cover up your speedo for track days. Looking at the speedo is a distraction from focusing on your braking and apex points. Let someone else tell you how fast you are going. I've seen plenty of people make that mistake and wind up off track.... and sometimes with an unhappy ending.

Agreed. Taking your eyes off the track for a split second might be all it takes to make for a really crappy day. :ohsnap: Very seldom is the car traveling straight down the center of the track at any road course. Turn outs and turn ins approach so quickly that you must constantly look ahead for the next transition and the speedometer is not where to be looking. Next time I'll rent a transponder or use my lap timer app to get an idea of the speeds after the session.

What gears were you using like 3rd and 4th? It sounds like you had a ball and I know it takes awhile to learn a track. You know the back straight @ Road Atlanta is so long you can look down real quick to see if your brakes can handle that speed. I never look @ the speed in the corners who the hell would do that . Get a camera if you need to know, right ! If you have ever driven Road Atlanta the back straight will lead you into a wide ride if you come in to hot. They put a small chicane so you would not go under the bridge to hot and get air born on the HUGH down hill. It takes balls to hold your foot down on that part of the track.

I put in 3.73's a few weeks ago and IMHO they are perfect for this car on this track. Early in the day I found I could stay in third all the way around without approaching the limiter until midway down the straight. Later in the day I was shifting to 4th entering the straight & the car is still pulling hard when it's time to lift. With the 3.73's the car has plenty of low end torque in third to pull itself out of the turns if I'm doing my job right setting up for the turn. Before the suspension and tire upgrades, even rolling onto the throttle coming out of a hard turn it wanted to swap ends. That tendency has been all but eliminated and lowering the watts link pivot should plant the rear end even harder. I am on the steep part on the learning curve and plan to stay well within my limits as I gain seat time. With the car setup as it is now - it is capable of far more than I can dish out and that's how I like it.

Road Atlanta is a completely different animal. I went to the Walter Mitty event there a couple months ago. My friend that is an accomplished racer says it is probably his favorite track but it demands respect from the driver. The long straights just beg for speed but you have to be able to haul the car down quickly or else you're in for a world of hurt - particularly exiting the back straight! I would love to get my car out there one day and really see what 5500rpm in 5th gear feels like! :eek5:

Did you put in an axle overflow reservoir ? If not - then get one ! The SPP KR one is on sale and works . Cheap insurance against having gear oil on the rear brakes !

Haven't done that yet. I still have the bumpsteer kit NIB that I didn't use so maybe return it and get the reservoir.
