From what I hear 2 of the 3 SPEC MUSTANGS from up here have backed out from the Fontana race - looks like David Ray may be the only one from the SMG class competing this weekend against the T2 cars ! :doh: Well - GOOD LUCK David - GO GET EM' !

Congrats go out to David Ray in his SPEC MUSTANG for setting a new track record in T2 @ Fontana . While a leaky driver's side fuel rail took him out of contention on Saturday come Sunday he had the car back together and won the second race. SPEC MUSTANG is proving to be a contender in the SCCA National Majors Tour T2 class ! :thumbsup:

Great first race weekend for SPEC MUSTANG in SFR SCCA at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows , Calif. Seven SPEC MUSTANGS showed up to compete in the season opener in group 5 which had 32 finishers on Saturday (in the dry)and 25 finishers on Sunday(in the wet). The rain played a key factor on Sunday as it made for wet and wild action including a red flag situation on lap one of the race (big multi-car crash on the track between turns one and two). Thankfully, no SPEC MUSTANGS were involved. Some competitors came prepared with Hoosier race rain tires while others did their best with what they had . Saturday night there was a catered dinner (and a drawing for a FREE wheel) for the entire SPEC MUSTANG group (and friends) provided by Jongbloed Racing Wheels - a BIG THANK YOU goes out to Ryan , the owner. :thumbsup:

If you want to check out some photos of the SPEC MUSTANG competitors go to - Chuck Koehler Photography at www.cwk-photo.appspot.com - click on the March 8-9 2014 date up top and them go to group 5 photos and you can see what he took @ the race this past weekend. Chuck is the official photographer for the SFR SCCA. I'll posts the ones JJ and Kathleen took up later .

Yes SPEC MUSTANGS do run in the rain !

Very cool KP! Driving through all that spray must have been a bitch. Any chance JJ has these videos with an audio track? I'd love to hear the SGT-R singing in the rain.

I'm glad to see that you made it LAB . For future events visit the SFR SCCA website and click on the event page for what dates you are looking for and then click on the "Event Schedule" which will bring up the file on the schedule for the whole race weekend. We (SMG)are currently running in Group 5 with ITA , ITB , ITS , ITC , STL , SE30 , BS , and AS class cars.

The latest news for those interested in SPEC MUSTANGS is that Cortex Racing is now offering a competition body wiring harness since the FRPP FR500S body harness is no longer available. This is a big plus for those interested in building a SPEC MUSTANG as most aren't wanting to take the time to learn what is and what isn't wanted/needed in the body wiring. There is some definite weight savings over the standard OEM body harness and it removes the possibilities of having unwanted "live" circuits / electrical draws while racing.

Latest news for SPEC MUSTANG is that 3 more cars are close to being finished - Russ Peterson's , Dave Mani's and another one from the Borelli Motor Sports gang. This along with the return of the SPEC MUSTANG formally owned by John Trefethen. Can't wait to see how many show up for the SFR SCCA double regional race coming up on May 17th-18th weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows , California.

Biggest news of the race weekend was that two more SPEC MUSTANGS were issued log books and raced for the first time this last weekend. Russ Peterson with his white 2007 Shelby GT SPEC car and Dave Mani's 2006 Redfire (with black and white accents) Mustang GT Spec car joined into the series. While things didn't go well for Peterson (contact with another car at the start of the first race but, still managed to finish) , Mani had PWC ( Pirelli World Challenge ) driver Darrell Anderson at the wheel of his car and finished second in the first race on Saturday (behind winner Addison Lee). As Sunday's race came Peterson DNS (did not start) and Mani's car with Anderson @ the wheel took the overall win. Pretty impressive for the first time out - especially considering the SMG field consisted of track record holder and current points leader Addison Lee amongst others.

Albino,

I know it's outside the San Francisco region...but are there any plans to bring this series to other tracks i.e. Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump Nevada? I'd love to make a trek to Laguna, Thunderhill or Sonoma to watch, but that isn't in the budget right now. Is there a source online to see any pictures/videos other than the SPEC mustang FB page?

SCCA National has accepted the class configuration for any SCCA individual region - so it's just a matter of having a couple of people wanting to start it up in their region and get participants. Here is an example of how close the racing gets ;

The amazing thing is that no paint was damaged but the left side mirror of the right side car got broken off and landed into the passenger compartment of the car on the left !

It was returned to its owner after the race.

I'm guessing that conversation went something like this:

"Hey... here's your mirror. Let's not meet like that again anytime soon". ;)
