Per Hertz Corporate records regarding the 2006 GT-H there was ONE car to Carroll Shelby, 23 went to Hertz employed Executives, ONE in the Hertz Corporate office atrium (Lobby), 30 went to Hertz Licensees/fleet/executives, and 445 went to the Hertz Corporate rental fleet, for a total of 500. The Hertz "atrium car" has a "Prototype GT-H" CSM plate. Also the GT-H "mule" used at the Ford Styling studios for Hertz approval had a "Prototype" CSM plate along with tan interior, "CS" faux gas cap, CS-6/8 hood-side scoops-lower valance and "Hertz Edition" badging. Yet another 2006 GT-H "Prototype" was in the SAI lobby and had dark charcoal interior. Summary is that Hertz bought 500 2006 Mustang GTs that were converted to GT-Hs and ONE of those cars had the "Prototype GT-H CSM #" so logic says there are only 499 Hertz ordered 2006 GT-Hs that actually have a "number" CSM plate. The test mule(s) that were labeled by SAI as "Prototypes" is an interesting question as to the amount built and as to their present location. Someone at SAI will have to answer that side of the question, but Hertz had ONLY 500 cars officially built for them. What CSM number is missing of the original 500?? Great research project and a great thought provoking Post by member NeilB. Hopefully the SAI Registry when completed / organized will answer these questions. Met the owner this weekend, car only has a little over 3000 miles. He was a VP for Hertz and now retired, he told me he paid around $44,000. He also has a automatic 2007 vert.
