V6PerfPack
Hello all, Anyone know the weight of a stock GT500 hood compared to the Super Snake hood? Thanks Mike
MY500SS
Not sure about the amount but the SS hood is definitely heavier. I'd guess about 20 lbs more.
V6PerfPack
Even though its fiberglass?
svt13
The SS hood is 60 pounds. I just had someone weigh one. Stock is maybe around 30-40 pounds though that one I am not sure of. But 60 is the SS hood

mzarnay
Do you need to use the hood pins with it? Or can you use the hood without them?
skyhazzard
mzarnay, depends on if you like surprises (:
Shelby73
Lol, hood pins is highly recommended. If you have hood struts make sure you replace with heavy duty struts for the extra weight. By the way you'll love the extra weight, the hood looks killer. Robert M
The functionality of the Super Snake hood is going to add weight, at least on the earlier hoods that were CAI functional. You have a the top fiberglass surface, but then there is also a second level in the front that allows for CAI function, that CAI plenum area is something that most plain old lightweight fiberglass hoods do not have, so there is naturally going to be extra weight if the hood is a fully CAI functional hood because of the extra fiberglass added for this directed air flow function. The newer Super Snake hoods are not CAI functional and do not have the plenum behind the frontal hood opening, so I would guess they are lighter than the earlier functional version?
