Imatk
So I bought a filter from Shelby to replace my aged FRPP filter for my FRPP CAI http://www.shelbystore.com/Shelby-GT500KR-Air-Filter-p/s8m-9601-c.htm According to the site it's a dry filter and can be re-used by washing. I had previously purchased the Air Raid version of the 07-09 FRPP filter replacement because it was also "dry" or "non-oiled" unfortunately the Air Raid filter didn''t fit correctly (it's slightly too small) so I sent that back and went with the Shelby filter. Here's where I'm confused. The filter box itself had a slight stain on the top which had a blue tint... ya know like a blue oiled filter would have? And then after opening the box there is a distinct oil smell on the filter and the blue dye looks VERY similar to how a K&N filter would look after you oiled it... fairly uniform, but with slight variations (although the K&N would be red in color). Looking at Air Raid's "non-oiled" filter it shows that they use "SynthMax" which is a synthetic fiber used on all their non-oiled filters, but according to the Shelby site they use cotton on their "dry" filter which is the same material used in the "oiled" version of the filter here: http://www.shelbystore.com/Shelby-GT500-Oiled-Air-Filter-p/s10m-9601-c1.htm So can someone tell me if the Shelby filter is dry and does not need oil? dbackg
Airaid made the original FRPP "KR" filter distributed through Roush. Airaid has recently introduced their new "Synthamax" non-oiled filter and manufacturing them in blue. The original filter was cotton media with blue dye oil. Cotton filter media can be "washed" and then re-oiled with a blue oil. Imatk
So basically I paid for a new filter when all I needed to do was clean and re-oil my FRPP filter...
08KR525
Yes, I believe the original can be serviced like a K&N airfilter.
SHELBYCS6
I bought the Airaid Synthamax for my 2010 GT500 and wanted one for my CS6 but it wasn't a standard size so I went to their site and went to the dimensional data page and selected one for the exact size I required regardless of what vehicle it was listed for as the material is the same used in all. Both fit perfectly and I have had zero issues with either. I replaced the oiled one on the CS6 and the factory one on the GT500.

Yeah the 2010 filter from Air Raid works great I guess, but the 07-09 filter from them is NOT the correct size. I even took the entire CAI off to try and get the filter to fit but it is too small. The diameter on the box is correct but the actual filter itself is slightly too small and will not fit. So anyone looking to get an Air Raid filter for your KR is out of luck unless they address the size issue.
JUST 1BULLITT
So basically I paid for a new filter when all I needed to do was clean and re-oil my FRPP filter... Don't feel bad dude; I'm pretty sure this has been my exact problem too -- only my filter's NOT 'dirty' per se; I never drive it really; BUT guess it needs more of that "blue-dye/oil!"
