Dennis Brown
I'm looking at a 2006 on ebay and was wondering if any one knows how good there Auto Check is. The reason I ask is because I ran a Carfax and it comes back ok, but the Auto Check shows a accident and that it had a bent frame rail.
shelbymotorsports
CarFax and AutoCheck are not beyond having errors but in this case I'd be very cautious. The AutoCheck report shows the damage not once but twice. The damage is first shown as being from an accident in October 2006, which happen to be the timeframe that the car was in rental service. Then almost a year later the car is advertised as having unibody damage from the auction house seling the car in 2007. The odds of an auction house listing a car as having unibody damage when it doesn't is pretty rare in my book. Are you saying that the CarFax report does not show the accident on 10/03/2006 ? It does not appear that the title was branded salvaged or totalled so you'll have to look at each entry for the accident. CarFax says it has 15 entries for this car where AutoCheck has less entries. Somethings just not adding up here. If you have a CarFax report post it here so we can take a look. Car looks great in the pics but you'll need an inspection to find out what's really going on. Rebuilt/Reconstructed Title A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road. Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon Title A DMV or a state agency marks an official document or issues a Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon title when a vehicle has been repurchased by the manufacturer. Not all states issue manufacturer buyback titles and the specific requirements for a lemon law vehicle varies by state. Odometer Rollback If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading, then the odometer may have been tampered with and "rolled back". Manufacturer Recall Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you. Basic Warranty Most manufacturers offer a basic warranty for new vehicles. These warranties vary by manufacturer and typically last for a certain amount of time and/or a set number of miles. Not Actual Mileage Title When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced. Junk Title A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. The majority of states use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage. Loss Due To Fire Title The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value. Exceeds Mechanical Limits Title A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer. Structural / Frame Damage In most cases, a vehicle is inspected for structural or frame damage, depending on the body design, after an accident or other incident. All levels of accidents from minor to severe can cause structural / frame damage and in most cases it can be repaired. Airbag Deployment Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase. Salvage Title A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eleven States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR. Total Loss An insurance or fleet company declares a vehicle a total loss when a claim exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value or if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered. This damage threshold varies by company. These companies typically take possession and obtain the title. Not all total loss vehicles result in a DMV-reported branded title, like a Salvage or Junk title. See the glossary for more information. Accident / Damage Indicator Various events could indicate an accident or damage in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information. Hail Damage Title The vehicle sustained major damage due to hail. In most states, hail damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value. Flood Damage Title States issue flood titles when a vehicle has been in a flood or has received extensive water damage. View Full Glossary Glossary CARFAX History Impact™ Accidents, service records, number of owners and many other history factors can affect a vehicle's value. The CARFAX History Impact is a tool that analyzes millions of used car transactions to measure how the combination of all the information reported to CARFAX affects the value of a particular vehicle. The vehicle's retail book value plus the CARFAX History Impact will give you a more accurate measure of the vehicle's value. Use this tool, along with a vehicle inspection and test drive, to make a better decision about your next used car. First Owner When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership. Ford or Lincoln Mercury Recall The Ford Motor Company provides Carfax with recall information regarding safety, compliance and emissions programs announced since 2000 for a specific vehicle. For complete information regarding programs or concerns about this vehicle, please contact a local Ford or Lincoln Mercury Dealer. Mileage Inconsistency If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading but CARFAX is uncertain whether the discrepancy is a rollback or a clerical error, then CARFAX calls it a "Mileage Inconsistency". In this case, you should verify the mileage with your dealer or a qualified mechanic. New Owner Reported When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles. Ownership History CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1994 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history. Rental Vehicle was registered by a rental agency. Title Issued A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership. shelbymotorsports
I have the car fax but I'm not sure how to post it here. The car is only about 30 miles from me so I was going to go look at it. Didn't realize you were that close. Yes check it out in person. Keep in mind that the accident date shown on the AutoCheck report appears to be from when the car was in rental service with Hertz. Sometimes rental car damage is not always reported on vehicle reports. Any accident that caused damage to the unibody should have signs of repair. One other thing I noticed is that this car is missing the Sirius sat radio on the console. Good luck and let us know how it works out. nolastyankee
Dennis, Please send me a PM if you want to talk about the car, it is mine and I pulled the ad from eBay after seeing the AutoCheck results. In short, what I know about the car does not match the records. I did not want to create an issue for someone else, so I removed the ad and am trying to sort through the details. I am going to have the car re-inspected this weekend as proof, and I have already spoken to the dealer who bought it at auction and have cleared up some of what is listed as unibody damage. Frankly, what is showing on the report is misrepresentative of the condition of the car. If you are close let's get together and I'll let you take a look and drive it. The car is excellent, and I will be happy to pay for any professional inspection to help you feel good about the purchase.
nolastyankee
One more note for those noticing the missing Sirius radio...It was removed as part of the decomission process at Hertz, some of the cars had these removed before a decision was made between Sirius and Hertz to leave them in for new owners. After I purchased the car I secured a brand-new, in-box Hertz labeled Sirius unit that was a leftover from the Shelby project. I have it in a box that will go with the car. I never liked the tacked on look so I did not install. Feel free to check my previous posts for the whole story.

HARALD KELLEY
Not knowing the seller, I can vouch for the SIRIUS radios. I was able to get a complete set up in the box which was left over from the HERTZ program. If it is a lagit GT-H set up, the box will have on it: HERTZ Model SRSIR-002FMH SIRIUS Satalite Diogital Audio receiver System Instructions will have a GT-H on the cover. Rev Dennis
I believe it is common for the rental agencies to fix them in house. That way it shows a clean carfax.

JeffJ
Can you post a picture of the radio? I would like to see what your talking about. Since you have an 07, the factory radio had the Sirius capability built in. In 2006, the factory radio did not have that capability, so the add on unit had to be installed. It's usually the added key pad that you will see by the shifter on the 06 models. Mine was also removed by Hertz, so they sent me the kit also brand new in box. gth0007
I'm looking at a 2006 on ebay and was wondering if any one knows how good there Auto Check is. The reason I ask is because I ran a Carfax and it comes back ok, but the Auto Check shows a accident and that it had a bent frame rail. Just a few thoughts regarding this topic. Hertz Corporate locations are self insured so they rarely, if ever, will report damage via CarFax or Auto Check, unlike privately owned vehicles with private insurance. Secondly, the "uni-body or frame damage" can consist of simple quarter panel damage, which is considered "frame" because the quarter panels are integral to the strength of a uni-body car. Hertz, like all sellers, are required to declare body damage when selling car via auctions. Commonly there are three lanes at an auction, red light, yellow light, or green, with red meaning buyer beware, yellow a caution, and green meaning nothing to declare. If you have purchased a car from Hertz you can contact the Hertz Corporate office in Park Ridge New Jersey and obtain pertinent maintenance records that will show photos (from at least three angles) of the alleged body damage. I would not be immediately reluctant to buy a car with THIS car's record. I would however have a body shop inspect the car and they can readily identify any work done. Personally, a replaced quarter panel, would not be a problem. This car came from Hertz-Florida so Florida law would require a Salvage Title if the repair costs exceed 75% of the current retail value. This is a tough number to reach on a new car so it's unlikely a Florida Salvage Title would have been issued. From my 27 years working at Hertz in Florida I would be really surprised if Hertz with held any damage when the car went to auction. Good luck and I hope this helps, regards, Larry Team Shelby Registrar , Hertz GTH cars. NOTE: Many of the Hertz GT-Hs in Florida had the Sirrius radio controller removed and re-installed in other cars so this should not be a red flag when considering a purchase.
