SCGT500 called me today to tell me that a White Shelby GT500 coupe was at a local body shop missing some badging and so on. We discussed whether it could be a clone or not. Cloth vert top, GT 500 hood and front valance...sounded like the real deal. I was passing the shop shortly after our discussion and stopped in. While hanging out and snapping a picture or two, the manager came out. Well, it was missing all three cobra emblems, rear faux gas cap, spoiler and the GT 500 letters on the rockers, so I had to know what was going on. When I asked, he shook his head as in disbelief of what he was getting ready to tell me. He said it was a 70 year old retired colonel and long time customer that had asked for some specific things to be done. He had taken it to three dealers that had declined to do the work. This shop said they would do it only because he was a long time customer. The front cobra was removed. the rear faux gas cap was replaced with a GT one. Both side cobras were removed, but the holes weren't finished off, merely pluged with black plastic plugs ( For Good). The Spoiler was removed and the four hood holes were plugged in the same manor as the side cobra badges. Finally, the GT 500 letters only were removed from both sides. The pics you see were with my phone hence the quality, but this is how this car is going home. this old man said he's tired of young punks pulling up to him for a challenge and would rather sneak up on them in disguise. What a tragedy.

I wonder if the Colonel is up to something else. Perhaps he's going to "clone down" the car to a GT (front clip and all), and then have the "fastest GT" around.

There may be more to this story. Keep your eyes open around town...hang out near geriatric stores, sell depends on the street corner, and go door to door selling viagra....keep on top of this guy.

Can't wait till he takes it out in the rain (you know he will) and the water gets in the trunk, that is going to be one nasty, smelly mess. He will second guess himself for taking the wing off. Either take the stripes completly off or just leave it as is, what an idiot :chairshot:

Hey Master,

Do us a favor and give the shop owner this website and ask him to pass it on to the old coot. I would love the opportunity to describe in detail the depth of his moronic behavor. Oh, I would also call BS on his claim that he is tired of "punks" challanging him to a race. I have YET to have that happen to me. NO one, and I mean NO one chooses me on. Even a Z06 or two have crawled off a stoplight without any probing. NOTHING! HE'S the one that's going to go out and do some hunting, not the other way around.

Sure, he's paid for his car, and sure he can do whatever he wants to it, but COME ON how stupid does he think that pepole are? He also knows why the dealerships turned him down too.

There are soooo many people that want these cars, and this Ahole wants to dumb his down. Well I guess that makes some sense; making the car look as stupid as it's owner.

EDIT: See if you can get the VIN off of the car so we can enter it into the registry with a warning!

Well, I must take up for this poor guy on this comment. At 70 years of age I'm sure he gets ticked easily about the punks in this area. Yes, SCGT500, MastersMech, and myself being Co Pilot, all live in this area. There's only been one time, last night in fact, while driving that I was actually left alone to my enjoying the car. We always get buzz bys from the local fart can owners, screaming engine playing by the somewhat muscle cars, and I even had a Ford Lightening sit at a light about a week ago and do a sit still burnout to get me to bite. I had two Z28's at the same time act like fools for about 5 miles trying to get me to play. We were in the middle of somewhat rush hour traffic from the navy base letting out. Cops sit in the center grass areas between the lanes just waiting all the time. Just so happen the radar detector went off and I wouldn't take a chance. They acted like butt holes flying up behind me, then around me, and letting me go a head traveling the speed limit, then getting beside me and jumping around. Complete butts about the whole thing. I even pointed to the detector while it was going off, they didn't care. Where's in my SCGT500 when I need him? Oh, at work of course. I had no Co Pilot of my own on this one. Our area maybe the exception, but we have lots of chances to test our cars, just not what we really want to test them against. Most aren't even worth the ticket if caught playing with them.

I did see this car. It looks worse than the pic can explain.

I thought I had seen it all. Wow. I just hope when I am 70 and still driving my GT500, I will still have my wits about me! God bless him.
