moabman
Just got back from a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Got to take part in a research expedition to The Flower Gardens Banks National Marine Sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico. The highlight was getting to dive on the USS NR-1 for a 48 hour stint where we got to observe a mud volcano erupt while we were hovering 20 feet above it. Where's Senor Rat? I've got new respect for our submariners....
ratnacage
Sounds cool. Did they let you take/keep any pictures? Do you glow now? The NR-1 was once tied up to the pier next to us...long time ago.
moabman
Sounds cool. Did they let you take/keep any pictures? Do you glow now? The NR-1 was once tied up to the pier next to us...long time ago. Two pictures (with the Captain's permission) and I don't glow but I do stink! The scientists weren't allowed to shower because A. the shower involved a Coleman camping shower bag and a 1 gallon bucket B. we would have had to walk past the reactor which was off limits to us. The crew was desperate for new discussion and we talked about Mustangs for hours :happy feet: We also talked about the submarine ball - got any stories we need to hear? ratnacage
We also talked about the submarine ball - got any stories we need to hear? That's the Submarine Birthday Ball. This year, the submarine is 107 years old. The ball is just a formal party for submariners (current and former). It doesn't generally get too out of hand.
