In an effort to have the biggest and best 9/11 Patriot Run EVER, we have made several changes to the event, including the venue!!! Unfortunately Holiday Isle is undergoing a major renovation and they will not be completed in time. In the meantime they have lost half their parking lot and a majority of their rooms. The good news is we have found an even better venue that just happens to be across the bridge from Holiday Isle. After a lot of negotiating, we have created a scenario where we will have more parking next to a beach, a MUCH nicer hotel, and an incredible all you can eat buffet included in your registration fee price! To top it off we will also be having an OFFICIAL after party that will be RIGHT on the beach, next to all of our beautiful cars, including a DJ and MAJORLY discounted draft beers, etc. No more security giving us a hard time, etc. Here are the details so far: Staging will be at Tower Shops with many more attractions including vintage vehicles from the South Florida Fire Museum, a mini send off car show with all the hottest local Police vehicles, and guaranteed news coverage from NBC6 (thanks Brandon). Being that we have a larger venue, we have decided to open the event up to ALL American Muscle Cars which should make this a major event and allow us the opportunity for larger sponsors and greater fund raising. In addition I think this will make the run and the car show far more interesting as most of us as enthusiasts appreciate our muscle car brothers. The host hotel and venue will be the Chesapeake Resort and Whale Harbor Inn complex. This complex holds well over 250 cars plus the spaces we have at the hotel for those who get rooms. The hotel itself is gorgeous and a much greater value over Holiday Isle in it's current condition. For more info click here: http://www.chesapeake-resort.com/ We have negotiated the following room rates (all are plus tax): Regular Room: $135 (many have two doubles) One Bedroom Villa: $145 (Sleeps up to four which would be $36 each!) Ocean Front Room: $169 (they are gorgeous) Two Bedroom Villas: $220 (these sleep up to six with pull out sofa beds meaning you would pay only $36 each also!) You MUST mention Patriot Run!!!! There is an $18 Resort Fee which includes breakfast, and we are not talking about a muffin, it is scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, etc; unlimited use of paddle boats, kayaks, etc, bottled water in the room. Trust me this resort is in a whole other league In lieu of a two hour long raffle ceremony, we are going to have a nice air conditioned room you can visit during the day with a silent auction. There will be many awesome items available in many different price ranges. When the car show part of the event is over, we will be having an awards ceremony / banquet at the Whale Harbor Inn which will include an all you can eat seafood buffet for all registrants! This will be included in your registration fee which will be in the $25 - $30 range per person (details coming SOON). Kids under 5 will be free and kids from 6-12 will be like $8.00! After we have all stuffed our faces, we will be having an official after party on the beach with a live DJ and discount draft beers and drink specials. I apologize, the drive/meet will start in Davie at Tower shops and we will be escorted to Islamorada/keys, FL. This year will have all muscle cars and not only mustangs like previuos years. I missed cruising w/ you guys by one day! On a related note, I'm extremely disappointed that Mayor Bloomberg is not allowing prayer or Firefighters at the 9/11 Ceremony, plus he wants no reference to Islam or use of the words "Ground Zero" anymore. Hopefully next year, on a side note, yeah, seems crazy what can be done and ca not be done at the 9/11 ceremony this year in NY. Who is setting aside the small area, Frank? Actually it will be the director for the Atlantic region that you have met at Gus Machado, Bob, he will set up the TS area. He's heading down to Islamorada before all of us. So far it is only you and I but hopefully we can get more members there, two cars that were for sure, a 40th GT500 and another GT500 which just happened to be at the same shop to get things painted will not make it. Problem with this whole Team Shelby thing is that although there are many Shelby owners, not many know of this site or the new Facebook page that was just set up so I am trying to spread the word. Once we are down at the final destination we will have TS area set up for our vehicles but will still be part of the car show. Did you already register online? After all this time I still surprised how the anniversary of 9/11 hits me. The radio show I listen to on my way to work in the morning was talking about their remembrances of 9/11 on Friday. I'm not ashamed to say I had to sit in my car for a while and compose myself before I could walk into work. It seems cliché but "NEVER FORGET!!!!" and "GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!"
