Engine Cap Sets

Title pretty much says it all.

Is there an anticipated date when they will be available again?

I have a few extra "Shelby Dollars" burning a hole in my pocket.

Which set are you looking for?

The set for the 2008 GT500. I'm split between the set with the snake on them, or the ones that say "GT500" on them.

I'm looking for the GT500 ones. Tried for them during the Easter sale...but out of stock. There doesn't seem to be a lot of anything

for the 2010 thru 2012 models yet. Feel like the red headed step-child.

When I bought my 2010 in late '09 I felt the same way but worse as there was NOTHING available for the 2010 MY and no one knew if some of the '09+E parts would retrofit to the '10.

The first thing I saw that I wanted to buy was the Shelby engine bay cap set but no one could tell me why the '09 version wouldn't fit the '10, only that it wouldn't. Some folks speculated it was a "height issue' with the Rad/IC caps possibly hitting the hood.

I found a set of new/used caps for sale by a TS member in the classified section and bought them. They were the "Shelby" Cobra caps, not the GT500 caps (TOO many "GT500" logos all in one place for my liking).

I found out the difference. It is with the Windshield Washer cap. The earlier version popped on/off. The later version is hinged.

That turned out to be a *easy* fix. I bought a new WS washer cap (I keep ALL of my OEM parts so I can return my car to DEAD STOCK if ever desired). I paid 9 bucks for a new cap. I trimmed the "thumb catch" part of the cap off so the cap was round rather than the OE egg shape. I took the '09 WS cap, removed the small plastic ring from inside of it, placed the cap on top of the modified OE cap to get it "indexed" and marked the side of the Shelby cap with a Sharpie where the hinge for the '10 cap would be. I clamped the Shelby cap in my vise using jaw protectors and used a hacksaw to cut two lines into the side of the cap where I marked it for the hinge. I used a pair of adjustable water pump pliers (i.e. "Channel Locks") and broke off the small tab between the two cuts. Then I used a small triangle file to smooth the two side edges where I cut the cap and filed down the "bottom" edge until it was flush with the inside of the cap. I put a gob of Silicone on the OEM cap and clamped it together to make a tight fit and then held it like that for a few days allowing the silicone to set up.

I now have a complete set of Shelby engine bay caps that fit a 2010 with a WS cap that hinges just like the original cap, but it's a Shelby cap.

I noticed that the 2010 and newer Super Snakes are built using the ORIGINAL yellow WS cap and I've been critical of SAI for not taking 10 minutes to make a WS cap that fits onto their $33K-$45K car! I CAN NOT believe that someone at Shelby didn't think about doing the same thing...but I digress (I don't need to "go there").

If you want a set of caps for your 2010-2012 Shelby, use a earlier set and modify your WS cap to fit your OE cap.

OK guys I got word that we are most likely about 1-2 months out. The best bet is to submit your email address on the website under the "Email Me When Back-In-Stock" for the set you want, and you will be notified when they come in. :mail:

Thanks for the info. It's appreciated.
