The SHELBY Focus's are coming!

Beware everyone...The SHELBY altered Ford Focus is not too far off!

Just read an article in this months Car & Driver, I think? An interview with Carroll reveals that he loved doing the Dodge GLH cars back in the 80's. He says that the trend is going away from V8's 'again'!

He also mentioned with a bit of sarcasm...that the V6 engine sounds better than the V8. Seriously though, he has let the cat outta the bag on a future SHELBY-ized Focus. He states that he will be working with Ford till he is gone. And...that it's seemingly 'in the works'!

EDIT---oops...not the 'gone' part. Sorry. The Focus is seemingly in the works. That came out all wrong!

An ecoboost V6 Shelby would be very nice! The Focus does not have a V6, just a 4. I have seen a 660HP AWD Fiesta however and it is AWESOME.

I agree that Shelby need to reach the younger buyers and build the brand there or it will not survive. A more entry level car would be a great way to do that. And I do love the Terlingua Mustangs!

I agree, in order to grow they will need to break into the younger crowd. Don't get me wrong, I am sure that the younger guys would like to have a Shelby but at the price of almost 50k or more for a GT500 it is way out of their league. Yes the SGT is less, however, no one really knows anything about the SGT and everyone wants the newest toy. A V-6 is more in line of affordability for the younger ones and a V-6 is also cheaper on the insurance. I am not a big fan of the focus or fiesta and really when someone mentions the "Shelby" name, it is expected that a Shelby vehicle will have great handling characteristics and more hp. I understand the fuel situation going lately so that may play in to the decision of a four banger Shelby.

It is an interesting thought and honestly perhaps something to be considered, I think I may have posted something with an idea like this last year sometime (not sure if it was here or on another forum).

The bottom line, the younger generation does not look at cars the way older people do, actually a good number of them have no interest in a car at all (my 17 year old does not even has his permit and no interest in even getting it yet) and younger couples are more frequently a single car family. The car manufacturers know this and it is a something they need to get creative to overcome, what audience can they cater to?

What I do see a lot of with the younger crowed who are interested in cars, are all those V-dubs and Honda's, could an American factory made pocket rocket perhaps appeal to them or a reasonably priced post title package for an American car? I can say this, the few times I have cruised to the local Sonic which is overwhelmed by imports, the GT500 always draws a respectful crowd and it is not just the 550 horses under the hood that appeals to these kids, the fact that it is a Shelby holds just as much allure as well as its “sinister” or “menacing” looks.

Sure there are a lot of factors involved, as mentioned initial cost, but cost of ownership is nothing to sneeze at either, insurance costs on big power V-8’s and putting gas in our cars which is only going to continue to get worse, a small car does address some of those issues.

The first time I saw a Fiesta in the showroom the hood was up and I walked over and looked at it, the salesperson I deal with was standing next to me, I said to her was “you know there is room for a supercharger under the hood here”. I wonder if the 12’ Focus will have some room to play under the hood also.

Hate to say it, but I get the impression that Ole Carroll for some reason will put his name on anything now. Used to be something with his name on it was special. but next thing we might see is a golf cart with Shelby on it. Aaarrrhhgggg.

Do some homework....

They already have that.

That was mentioned last summer on a special half hour tv show.

Just waiting for it.

Not news to me.

Well I posted this suggestion awhile back when the thread asked what would you like to see from SA in the future... and I guess that SA was already thinking the same thing!!!

RIGHT ON!!!

Its about time!

Lets hope they price it to compete with the imports and lets see some American kids driving some USA made SA cars instead of imports....happy%20feet.gif

Go SA!!!! happy%20feet.gif

+1... the smaller Honda and Toyota brands that our youth drive need some serious competition, and Carroll's just the guy to give em some!

steve-

Though my GT500 proudly sports his autograph with the stroke of a Sharpie, and my window sticker...the same

I do sorta agree with you on one front. I really feel for the guys with original GT350's and even the guys with all the cars up to and including 1970 models with Carroll's sig. on them. Not only did those cars age like fine wines and start to command crazy pricing, but his autograph seemed a tad more difficult to obtain, and if you had it......you 'HAD' it!

Sans the golf cart comment, it is apparently more commonplace to get and have his sig. these days. But remember, these days he takes $$$$ for his sig. that go to a GREAT cause!

To you, whom commented on the Focus having a SHELBY nameplate on it: What's so bad about that? Carroll has spread his love around on all kinds of production cars over the years. This would just be another blessed with his insight, input and talent. Ford should be so lucky to have him bless another one of their models. Sure, lot's of young'ns may not know who he is or what his accomplishments are, but they can read books as we all have, to find out why the hub-bub, and their right foot along with all of their other senses will tell them why that new Focus they're driving has his name on the hatch! Thus creating a whole NEW generation of SHELBY owners...right , wrong, or otherwise.

It's kinda like Aerosmith, and some of these other 70's bands with new introductions...the youngsters will eventually figure it out.

Well I do know that a Lime Green Fiesta entered the Shelby parking lot somewhere around March 29th. There are pictures of it parked in front of the building (facing out) right next to a couple other Shelbys.

Can you say test mule?

the comment that the younger crowd isnt in to cars like they use to be makes me laugh. at least in this part of the country there is a huge american muscle following with younger kids. not so much with the ricer cracker jack boxes.

that said im not sure about the focus. yea the svt focus was ok. but id go more for like a shelby fusion. the svt contour was a pretty cool little car. the fusion is about comperalbe to a contour

The Fiesta or Focus would be the most likely candidates as their is a track record to small hot Fords in Europe (Fiesta XR2, Fiesta XR2i, Escort XR3, Escort XR3i, Escort Cosworth, Focus RS to name a few). Would love to see the Mustang GTS make it into production too.

Not to :beatdeadhorse: here................

And it's been said numerous times on other threads here on our forum...but, history is repeating itself while we all watch. Remember the invasion from the East???? Datsun , Toyota, Honda??? Then we answered with the Pinto, Vega, Chevette, and the whole lot that followed.

This time around however, we are a wiser bunch here in the USofA. We've partnered in various forms with the builders from the East, and learned how to build cars better. So the offerings in a compact form this time are of much higher quality and durability. Plus.....WAAAAYYY more fun to drive than a friggin' Pinto or a Vega!!! :shift:

So with Carroll's help on one of these little econoboxes................................................? :yahoo:
