09KR0058
Just noticed that the Ford Racing air filter on the KR is pretty dirty. In the KR supplement manual, it says to check shelbyautos.com for the parts. They list the air filter maintenance kit as part number SGT500CLKR, and the air filter replacement as SGT500FKR. When I go to shelbyautos.com, then click on the link to Shelby Performance Parts, it takes me to Shelbystore.com. I can't find either of these parts listed anywhere on any of these sites. Before I call the number listed in the supplement (702.942.7325), I thought I'd post here first. Anyone know if Shelby still sells these parts? Is this a part that I can get from a Ford dealer, or somewhere else? What exactly is the "maintenance kit"? Thanks
tdshelby
I just cleaned my KR air filter. I bought a K and N Air filter recharge kit. Washed the filter per instructions with the spray detergent and rinsed the filter out from inside out. Let dry a couple of days, then re-oiled the filter with the oil included in the kit. Worked Great! filter looks excellent. These are made to be cleaned and recharged.
REAL ONE
I would go with the K&N replacement.
shelbypt
I was just thinking about buying a new air filter and was going to ask if anyone went with a K&N. Great timing 058! I was going to go to Ford for the filter. I will have to research this. I will also check with K&N.
dbackg
Airaid made the original FRPP Roush "KR" blue air filter. Contact Airaid for replacement. They are located in Phoenix, AZ http://www.airaid.com/ContactUs.aspx Here is the (BLUE) FRPP CAI maintenance kit aerosol spray oil: http://www.sbfilters...ter-Maintenance aFe Power maintenance kit: http://afepower.com/...artno=90-50001 Also, Justin (VMP) sells a direct replacement with a really nice chrome open inverted powerstack end. http://www.vmptuning...id=295&parent=0 aFe Power: http://afepower.com/...1007&brandID=61 Amsoil version: http://www.teamshelb...acement-filter/ http://www.svtperfor...ent-filter.html http://www.fordgt500...read.php?t=8398 I don't know the exact Amsoil part # for the FRPP CAI. http://www.amsoil.co...front/eaau.aspx Shelby Store: http://www.shelbysto...p?Search=filter If you want the Amsoil one, PM "UnleashedBeast" for advice. I think the new Amsoil filters have an open inverted powerstack end too??? Not sure?
08KR525
I would definitely go with the open-ended versions as it appears that they are less restrictive. Thanks Dbackg.

09KR0058
Don't think I want to change to the "open ended" version. I want to stay absolutely stock and use exactly what Shelby put on it. Does anyone know if this filter is a Ford Racing part or is it made by K&N?

terumi71
I wouldn't worry about stock in this case. And I don't think Shelby put the, "end all", on the kr in all cases. If it wasn't made by ford, the real decision maker of what went on the kr, it didn't go on. As so, the ford filter might not provide the best flow. A buddy of mine is dropping a new engine in his mach 1 and he found that the best flow for him was the ford filter so it worked in his case but without researching it, i wouldnt limit myself on such an easy swap from stock. There might be better but shelby not puttting another filter on doesnt mean the ford filter is the best flow! YMMV but that's my two cents! 08KR525
While I agree with 09KR0058 in keeping my KR pretty well stock, I do believe that as long as I don't alter it to the point where I can't return it back to "factory delivered" then if anything I'm improving it. Like the use of better filters for instance.
dbackg
Where did you get the recharge kit? Got a part number? Most auto parts store have the cleaning & oiling kit. Summit, Jegs, Auto Zone, PepBoys, O'Reilly, Napa, etc I don't think the the original FRPP CAI filter was designed to be washable??? I provided a link to S&B website that sells the kit in my previous post. http://www.sbfilters.com/Store/Filter-Maintenance K&N: http://www.knfilters.com/clningacc.htm AirAid: http://www.airaid.com/Filter_Tuneup.aspx Volant: http://volant.com/filter_kit.asp
Tob
Don't think I want to change to the "open ended" version. I want to stay absolutely stock and use exactly what Shelby put on it. Does anyone know if this filter is a Ford Racing part or is it made by K&N? The cold air systems used on the 2008 and 2009 GT500 KR were supplied by Ford Racing to Shelby. There was one difference from the the publicly available CAI kit and as it was installed on the KR - the KR also utilized a short length of rubber seal atop the MAS where it joins with the filter, just atop the CAI housing. That piece has never been available to the public. Short of that, this is what you have installed on your KR... My understanding is that the kit was developed in conjunction between FRPP and Roush. As to exactly where Roush sources their portion of the kit, I do not know. Interesting, however, to note the sticker that was placed on my filter... The bottom line is this - if you want the exact filter that was installed on your car, you can still purchase it from FRPP. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=10509 You should be able to purchase it from any competitive FRPP dealer (Tousley, Buyfordracing, etc) for somewhere around $50. txcobra
I just ordered on off eBay for $59 shipped. After reading this post and thinking about it...I will try to clean my original but having a brand new one makes sense to me.
09KR0058
http://www.fordracin...tKeyField=10509 Tob Thanks Tob. I had found that part over the weekend on the Ford Racing site. It looks like the correct part, except that the original is grey and this one is blue. I'll give it a shot.

My car is up on my lift at the moment so I couldn't easily go look...but I could have sworn it was blue orginially. I looked for some underhood pics and found this one: It looks blue to me, but maybe there was more than one used or maybe it just faded to grey over time? 09KR0058
Just checked again, and mine is definitely gray. And check post #13 by Tob above. You can see in the original kit that it was gray, but the current SVT part is blue. Noticed that you have an '08. I'm wondering if those had the blue, and the '09s had gray? This is very curious! The Chairman
I have an '09 KR, and my filter looked sort of gray. But when I took it out to clean and re-oil, it was blue on the bottom and the inside. So I presume they started blue and faded over the years due to sunshine, etc. I initially cleaned and re-oiled using the red K&N kit. But have acquired the correct blue oil and will re-do shortly. I bought the blue oil from Steeda.
dbackg
your filter turned gray due to sunshine?? oh, right. good idea, drive the KR without the hood ... i heard those hoods are really expensive. lol. just kidding.

I agree with you on keeping it as Ford made it. They were all blue in the beginning. They turn gray after use. Here's a pic of it new... And used. Not a closeup, but clearly gray after 9mos of use...
