The mechanic showed me that the source of the noise was two faulty carrier bearings. Someone didn't set the bearing pre-load correctly. This is what happens when someone you don't know works on your car. The previous owner had the 3.73 gears installed by the same dealership that wanted $1800.00 to put the factory 4.10's back in.
