Shelby Windshield Washer Reserviour tank cap

Recommended Posts

I don't know WHY Shelby doesn't put a WS washer tank cap on the 2010 + 2011 Super Snakes because it only takes about 5 minutes (and that's with HAND TOOLS) to make the existing '07-'09 reservoir cap work on the 2010 and later bottles.

Here's a short how-to, with pics.

To explain, you take your OEM yellow cap and trim off the thumb tab (for opening the cap) with a razor knife so the cap is round.

Remove the plastic ring from the Shelby aluminum cap. Set the cap on the lid and mark two marks down the side where the hinge of the OE cap sits.

Clamp the aluminum cap in a vise with jaw protectors, cut two lines (I used a hacksaw) where the marks are all the way down to the inside flat surface of the cap. Take a pair of water pump pliers (adjustable pliers, channel locks, whatever ya wanna call 'em) and snap off the small piece of alumium between the two saw cuts. I took a small triangle shaped file and filed the sides perfectly square along with the bottom edge where I broke the piece off.

I put a gob of silicone on the top of the cap, set the OE cap inside the Shelby cap and let it set-up for a couple of days.

Viola. Done. And it looks like it was made to be there.

I don't understand how Shelby can charge $33,000-$45,000 for a "upgrade" and skimp on a 5 minute job. In fact, if they had the Mfgr. of the cap cut the notch in the side of the cap with the end mill that they use to mill out the material in the middle of the cap, it'd take 'em all of about 30 seconds more!

For your enjoyment,

Phill Pollard

I think, sometimes, the answer is that no one visualized the solution. You need to give yourself a bit more credit. The "problem" with people like you is that you have a gift, such as the ability to visualize the solution AND the ability to build the solution, but do not see it as anything special. That is proof that you are a humble guy but, honestly, the rest of us look at your skills and can only wish we had them. Great job.
