Slabo
Why? If they really wanted to take down the plane they would not have to carry on any weapons or explosives. +1 My brother in law is a pilot and he said its BS because he could get on the plane naked and still take down the plane easily. We are truly in their hands when we fly. I am not trilled with either of these new "screening" options.
inyadreems
Riddle me this Batman. Has there been any, even a single, "terrorist" with bombs or anyone with intent ever been caught going through the airport scanners? Sure, there are lots of kids with knives and even a few people with handguns - but noone that could be identified as having intent of taking a plane down. It's a waste of time and money. All it gives is a false feeling of security. A way to give more worthless government employees pensions. These are the ones that couldn't get into the postal service. Make you feel better? As demonstrated, it's lots easier to get by air cargo. Oh, don't bring any toner or ink jet cartridges on your flight. I hate flying for this reason. What a crock. Sorry for the delay, saves from backscatter (airport scanners) are classified, but recent Capital Hill testimony by Transportation Security Administration Administrator John Pistole Senate Commerce Committee on Capitol Hill put numbers over 100 to date. PS Article just for reference, does not mention actual numbers. kahmann
I fly quite often, especially lately. In fact, I leave Vienna tomorrow morning for Frankfurt, then on to SFO in the afternoon. Personally, I'm all for any and all additional security measures in place that might help stop an attack of any kind. I couldn't care less if I have to arrive at the airport 2 days before my flight, if it's for a good reason. Are these scanners going to stop anyone from taking down a plane? Maybe not. But the older systems aren't any better, so I'm happy they're at least trying to get things locked down better than they were. I'm honestly surprised that there haven't been several more successful transit attacks here in Europe and back in the States since 9/11. I think that luck has played a much bigger role than anyone likes to admit, but we won't be lucky forever. The first time since 2001 that a plane hits the ground (or worse) domestically, people will once again be demanding that any and all additional security measures be put in place. This is one of the few times that TSA seems to be ahead of the game and for that I'm grateful.

07-2937
the whole system is flawed... Even while active duty my name showed up on a no fly list (this required a supervisor to look at my credentials)and at the time i held a top secret security clearance. Now I still cant get my name off the "list" So i cant check in early... sux when flying southwest! Lots of "pat-downs" done here in Vegas it seems always the hot chicks r getting patted down! and I heard them(TSA) say that the scanner shows the length of peoples manliness as well as the size of ones breasts. How sick is that? (look @ some of the "saved scans" online). The emphasis needs to be on intel and profiling. this system seems to be based on that everyone is the same risk therefore the same degrading scan or the perverted grope... but on the other hand Europeans dont treat the human body as "Taboo" nudity is common and not "dirty" scanners would not effect 90% of Europeans I would wager!!!!!!! inyadreems
TSA needs TECHNOLOGY to make them more effective. As President Obama said 2 nights ago, AT THE MOMENT, this is the best we've got. Pre-TSA, airline security was definitely what terrorists considered a "soft target" was unorganized, no standards, with no or barely any backgound and some were illegal immigrants with fake docs. In general the public has always hated security. It slows people down and tests the patience of those who don't have any. We live in a different world now than we did before 9/11. What would happen if TSA backed off all the security procedures that annoy people and another plane was lost? I would wage we'd see whining about how TSA isn't being proactive enough. People will never be happy no matter what balance we have with safety/security and privacy. So what does everyone suggest the government should do to protect and secure the aviation passenger and cargo sector?
ilmor
So what does everyone suggest the government should do to protect and secure the aviation passenger and cargo sector? I suggest we were doing enough before the porn scanners and pedophile searches started. It was bad enough before. Now, its beyond reason. But frankly, all this trouble and tremendous, unnecessary cost could be avoided if they would simply profile people. It's absolutely ludicrous that they don't. Edit - in addition, I recommend that they send all the TSA agents to guard the Mexican boarder, as Gov. Rick Perry of TX has suggested.
inyadreems
Use of race by Federal Law Enforcement Agencies and Officials is forbidden under federal law. So the G announces "profiling" instead of "scanners" and we have the same public reaction with an equal amount of opposing views. Now we are back to square one, next suggestion. 07-2937
YOU HAVE TO PROFILE plain and simple its another tool that has to be used This country got pussiefied with the political correctness... if police see someone that appears underage driving do they stop them and check their license? YES and that's profiling. as well as holiday DUI checkpoints (set up around the party places sports events) On the northwest coast alot of crime is done by Asian gangsters so the awareness is more emphasized on that group On the east coast areas of high crime are committed by eastern block gangsters so awareness is higher there also. In Florida its the Cuban gangs as well as the Haitian gangs committing crimes thus the higher awarness Here in the SW and border towns its the mexican cartels the salvadorian gangs and mexican gangs more profiling I lived in Germany and traveled throughout the world. their problems are Turks and Muslims and they do profile believe me Same in France Switzerland Austria and others. America has let so many illegal aliens from many different nations live here and see how soft our laws are commit crimes and don't even get deported 29% of our entire prison population is illegal aliens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its a fact that over 95% of aircraft related crime has been carried out by muslims. Their religion rewards them richly for acts of martyrdom go figure Sorry but until something happens to change the picture they must be profiled!!!! The groping is total BS I will accept the "pornscanner" People need to set aside their modesty and move on.. But in 20 years of frequent flying what does that exposure do to our bodies???? BLOWN
There will be a terrorist attack on a airline no matter the security as long as they are letting the Terrorist board planes with NO security checks. Its just a matter of time period. O don't think kids nor little old grannies post a threat to American Security its the Islamic radicals that our threatning to kill Americans. As long as we our bending over and letting these groups that R threatning Americans go through securtiy I would be very very scared if I was flying. I see that TSA are backing off just a little when they said they would NOT. Keep it up AMERICA we will over come this stand up and be " LOUD AND PROUD" Remember wed day do not go through the scanners. The only way to do this the right way is to PROFILE THE ENEMY.... If they want to be serious about this all other efforts is just stepping all over our 4th Ammendment right. OR just follow the Money to be made.. They told us if Republicans were in charge, we would be living in a police state. They told us if conservatives were in charge, our rights would be forfeited. And here we go. Our rights forfeited. The police state. In liberal land, where this behavior is, now, apparently the new normal. Cameras are being confiscated now, the natural next step to preserving the police state. The natural next step in quelling public argument. Rather than let witnesses record the outrages taking place in airports around the country, the TSA is confiscating cameras even though there is no policy against it. And why would or should there be, if you're not doing anything wrong, TSA?......The American way....Ya right.

All I can say is that we try very hard and do our best with the tool, assets and current political air we are provided. Back to airport searches; the Ninth Circuit held that airport searches no longer are dependent upon implied consent; they are now administrative searches because flying on an airplane in a post-9/11 world is now the same as a "highly regulated industry." Any "implied consent," thus, cannot be revoked once the passenger elects to enter the secure area. Such searches, however, are not limitless; they are limited by their justification: screening for terrorists. This search was reasonable under the circumstances. United States v. Aukai, 497 F.3d 955 (9th Cir. 2007) (en banc): We have held that airport screening searches, like the one at issue here, are constitutionally reasonable administrative searches because they are "conducted as part of a general regulatory scheme in furtherance of an administrative purpose, namely, to prevent the carrying of weapons or explosives aboard aircraft, and thereby to prevent hijackings." inyadreems
Glad you loved them, but the point of the examples were to illustrate the fact that when it comes to criminal activity anyone regardless of age, gender, race, religion or sex can be involved in criminal activity. The speed and acceleration of you vehicle is already restricted by state vehicle traffic laws and factory installed governors/speed limiters. While your vehicle Of course the speed limits can be broken and the vehicle computer system be modified to eliminate these restrictions, but then there are consequences. Back in the day you could "street race" and get away with a ticket, now your car is confiscated and you may be criminally charged. Also, all new vehicles are equipped with " black boxes" and have been for some time now. These on-board data logging systems record everything you and your car do and the information can be retrieved for both criminal and civil court proceedings. So if you brake the law by speeding and kill somebody, your Shelby will tell your insurance company and law enforcement how fast you were going, when you applied the brakes......................etc Not saying not to fly or not to own a Shelby, but with both and almost everything we do in life there are "regulations" and the consequences of violating those regulations.
