Pomona ca

Recommended Posts

I may have a chance to move to Pomona ca and would like to know if anyone has lived there. Some of the questions that come to mind are crime, schools for my kids, and possibly what the housing market is like. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Be sure to check the sex offenders list at the police station. I ask where ever I move. One time it saved me as I was about to put a deposit on a place but received the list just on time to cancel. Turns out there was a guy literally in the neighborhood in the back yard behind the woods with access to our potential house via electrical easement.

Good luck moving. Wish I could move to CA.

Thanks for advice I will be sure to do that. The move is not firm yet, I will be going to be a recruiter for the Air Force and that is a possible place for me and the family to go. We just need to figure out if that is a good option for our family.

My grandparents lived in Pomona forever. My Aunt still does. I go back almost every year to visit as I grew up in Whittier.

Pomona itself is not to great a place anymore. Lots of deterioration. Towards I-10, it is rough. Towards the 210 and out east is good.

Surrounding areas are good ie Rancho Cucamonga, Alta Loma, Claremont, Upland to the east.

The other direction down 57 freeway Chino, Diamond Bar, Fullerton, Yorba Linda, La Habra, Whittier and down into Orange County are good areas. You just need to make sure what school district it is and check out the areas well.

It is very expensive to live out in CA now. Compare your finances in SC and CA.

Thanks for info. The military will be paying me more there then I get here in SC. My housing will go up by over $1000 a month and I will be getting special duty pay as well. My wife and I are both from California originally so I have a fairly good idea of the cost, we were just more worried about the schools and what not. I don't want my kids to grow up in the same type of manner that I did. How far away from Pomona would I need to get for some of the better areas? I won't mind driving if it means my family will be in a better place.

You can search the registered sex offenders in Pomona < here > if you want. You can also access the site and enter your address as well.

Can't speak of Pomona personally, but hopefully that helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the link. Yes it helps.

Rancho Cucamonga, Alta Loma about 12 miles east of Pomona.

Down the 57 freeway about 10 miles or so are the others and then Orange County.

Thanks again!!! On a side note I noticed your tag in your avatar. Let your son or daughter know that we all thank them.

I don't live too far from Pomona. California sucks. It is at the top in sales tax, income tax, gas tax, yet the state is bankrupt. If certain ballot measures get passed Nov 2 it will even be worse. Productive, motivated business owners are leaving the state in droves while the invasion from 3rd world countries continues. Traffic is terrible, the freeways around Pomona are no exception. I love driving the Shelby but it is intolerable much of the time because of stop and go traffic on the freeways. Even good looking neighborhoods are turning into Tijuana at a rapid pace. The state spends enormous money on education yet the schools suck. Most the kids are just trying to learn to speak some broken English. Pomona is hot and smoggy. I see you are a runner, as am I, and I know much of the time I am not doing myself any favors by breathing the air. Well, that is just a few things.................But hey legalized marijuana might get passed. That should help solidify California as the number one deadbeat state with the highest percentage of the population on welfare.

Just had to rant.....I do love the weather in the winter.

I grew up in Glendora and lived in both Covina & La Verne for awhile. I don't know if it's as good now, but Glendora was a great place to live and grow up. A bedroom community and good schools. The biggest downside was the smog as it is against the foothills and housing was a little pricier, but not too bad. Southern California has a lot to offer, though high housing prices and traffic are not among the draws. :shift:

10 minutes to the east in Rancho Cucamonga and surrounding communities will get you less expensive housing and better schools

I live and have my office in Claremont, which is adjacent to Pomona. There are some nice areas of Pomona, but the rough areas are pretty rough, and this affects the schools. Many kids from the nicer areas of Pomona transfer to Claremont schools or attend private school if they can.

The cities right around Pomona such as Claremont and LaVerne (both adjacent) are nice, Claremont is the nicest and has the best schools.

If you 10-12 miles from Pomona you get to Upland/Rancho Cucamonga which are nice areas as well. Upland and Rancho are San Bernardino County, Claremont and LaVerne are LA county. Taxes and many utilities are higher in LA County. I am in Claremont primarily for the schools and just live with the higher costs. My parents live over one City to the East (Upland) and pay less for pretty much everything, but I moved to Claremont for the schools.

I couldn't have said this any better myself.. It's pretty much dead on.

A lot most tax revenue goes to social programs.

On top of that, our smog laws are worsening every year.. 10 year old diesel trucks that were exempt when new, are now required to get smogged..

Back on topic.. Pomona? NO! My dad lived in the area when he went to Cal Poly (back in the early 70s'); even then it wasn't the greatest place.

As far as schooling, from what I hear from family members who are teachers, schools in CA are 'titled' based on their number of minority students... if there are more minority students, the school gets more funding. My sister literally has students that are right over the border and don't speak a word of English. I'm not trying to be derogatory or offensive, it's simply the truth..

If you don't mind driving A LOT, Temecula/Murrieta is a nice place.. but as you're driving down this way, avoid Lake Elsinore at all costs.. A LOT of military families in this area because of bases close by..

Thanks for all the information. My family and I have put in for three places for me to be an Air Force recruiter. The three we chose are Pomona Ca, Las Vegas Nv, and Albuquerque Nm. We will know by the end of dec if we will be going to one of the three. If I don't get one of my choices I will be going back to San Antonio to be a drill instructor for the Air Force again. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again for the info.

If I could have the same job in any of those three it would be Albuquerque. No way I'd ever live in CA. We love Vegas - I'm a desert rat and the rest of the stuff doesn't bother me, but Albuquerque is very much like the front range of Colorado for climate, you've got the mountains around you and world class outdoor activities within hours (like Colorado), and history to boot. Plus if you like Native American Art you can't get closer to some of the best.

My mother and step father live in Rio Rancho so I do know and love the area. It will all depend on how many people put in for the same places I did. I had a total of 98 places to chose from and only chose three because most of my family is on or near the west coast and SC is just to far from family. If we do get Las Vegas we will live in Henderson if we get Albuquerque we will live in Rio Rancho. I know what you mean about desert rat I grew up in Barstow CA if you know where that is.

I'm a California native and the above is sad... but true! This state has really been in a nose dive for the past several decades. It has become the People's Socialist Republic of Kalifornia. I'll be gone when I retire as well.
