Guest staff2
AutoWeek: Shelby American tops GT350 Mustang range with 624 hp Shelby American wrings up to 624 hp out of Ford's 5.0-liter V8 with a supercharger for the GT350 Mustang. Mustang customizer Shelby American has locked in the engine-output ratings of GT350 package and frosted the cake with the addition of a 624-hp variant. Buyers of a Shelby American GT350 Mustang can choose from a range of power ratings--from the Ford factory-standard 412 hp (key for those who want to run the car in SCCA competition), a 430-hp naturally aspirated version, a 525-hp supercharged version and the 624-hp R tune. Shelby American, based in Las Vegas, is the car-customizing firm founded by Carroll Shelby. The GT350 begins life as a white 2011 Ford Mustang GT. Shelby American takes the car and makes extensive changes to the exterior, powertrain and suspension while refitting the interior. In addition to the cost of the Mustang GT, you'll spend $26,995 for the GT350 package with the naturally aspirated Ford 5.0-liter V8. Selecting the Whipple supercharged option adds $33,995 to the cost of the Mustang GT. And if you want to go all the way to the R tune and 624 hp, write the check for $34,745.
