2008 SUPER SNAKE OWNERS

Was your 2008 GT500 built before October 2007?

If you own a 2008 GT500 and it was built prior to October 2007 ....

then your GT500 was built with the "2007" CRANKSHAFT DAMPNER.

When your mod shop converted your GT500 to the Super Snake package did they change it out to the:

2008 MUSTANG SVT CRANKSHAFT DAMPER - M-6312-SVT

This is excellent information. I will check my SS and get back with you. The weight difference is substantial. I wonder why the 2007's went with the 22 pounder??? It will be interesting to find out if I have the 22 pounder, whether or not SAI installed the correct dampner. The part description states that the SVT dampner should be used for any upgrades in HP. i.e., SS packages!

Thanks for the heads-up.

Since the 08's were still commanding MSRP+ with new colors added, HID's, etc. it is very possible that even if someone bought their GT500 mid-2008 or later, in reality it could be a much earlier build car.

Mine is 2/08......................

According to my local Ford dealer and other sources, the cutoff date for 2008 model is October 2007.

If your 2008 was built before October 2007 then, most likely, your GT500 was equipped with the heavier 22LB 2007 crankshaft dampner.

Ford Warranty clearly states:

If you install the 2007-2009 MUSTANG SVT 605 HP SUPERCHARGER UPGRADE KIT: M-6066-SGT, then, you must use the

upgraded lighter damper M-6312-SVT to be eligible for the FORD limited warranty.

Why would the Super Snake mod shops NOT know this.

Why would the Super Snake mod shops install the 2.3L Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger FRPP - M-6066-TVS

http://www.fordracin...tKeyField=10846

without installing the upgraded damper M-6312-SVT?

Ford Racing clearly states the lighter dampner must be installed to prevent crankshaft failure.

Does this mean our Ford Factory Warranty is VOID?

Regardless of the warranty, what damage has been done to the engine due to the correct dampner NOT being installed?

For everyone who had their 2007 cars converted at Tasca the balancer WAS installed. It is clearly indicated on the invoice I just checked mine . Once again Tasca is ahead of the curve

Thanks for the reply.

YES. All 2007 GT500's that have the Super Snake package received the NEW 2008 MUSTANG SVT CRANKSHAFT DAMPER - M-6312-SVT. This should be itemized on your mod-shop receipt.

This is why I was really specific in my post title, there is a possibility, that some 2008 GT500's built prior to October 2007 have the 2007 crankshaft dampner.

Well obviously this information has caused a little concern at my place - I have a 08SS w/ford factory build date of 07/07. There was no reference to the install on my Shelby invoicing. Fortunately, I was able to take a quick snapshot of the balancer and e-mailed Jeremy @ Shelby American this afternoon. From the photo he determined that everything was appropriately fitted. I'm not sure that Shelby Las Vegas changed anything or if this was correctly installed for the upgrade as original for an '08. If it was the later I would suggest that the October cut-off might not necessarily be the date for 10lb balancer.

Jeremy was great and responded very quickly, he stated that if I would have had the 22lb unit that the performance would have been noticeably sluggish - that's certainly never been the case with this one. Thanks Jeremy A++

Thanks for the post, better safe than sorry.

The 22lb crank dampener was held over from the Ford GT. They were worried about the excess weight of the balancer breaking off the crank key so they changed in in 2008. 7000rpm on a GT engine is no big deal. If it will hold up in the GT I doubt its a ticking time bomb in our GT500's. Most of the GT guys are still running this beast and I have not heard of one failure. Even the 1000hp whipple GT's.
