painted rear

Oh, well, the ones that did surface that were painted from Ford, looked half assed and would surely not last anyway. POR-15 is the only way to go if you want to do your rear end, IMHO

I ttreated mine with rust inhibitor, then cleared it--still looks new

So some come painted and some don't? What's that all about?

Not really sure. I think from all the complaints they decided to try and paint them in the very late part of the '10 build lineup. Mine rolled off the line the last day of the 10s. I think that I have been fortunate to benefit from everyone's misfortunes; bad paint here, no paint there, bad body alignments and so forth. I will be clay baring and doing the 100% fine tooth comb once over when i get home this weekend but thus far I have not seen any of the problems that so many had over the 12 months.

Now, I have not heard what the earliest reported date of a painted '10 rear has been and if EVERYTHING past that was painted or if it was random hit miss type deal. That would be interesting to know....

Took some as the guy pulled it off the car carrier but never got around to posting them. Little dirty but it shows the general idea of what they thought would fix things...... It is a daily driver for me, well it will be when I finally get home and can start driving, so I am satisfied for the most part. Time and a season of driving may change my mind but will see come next summer of 2011 and I see what the elements do to it.

Nic thanks--looks like a decent paint job--they used a matte black. If you have access to a lift, you might consider spraying some flat clear on it--i also taped over all the little desination tapes they put on the car, so they wouldnt start flapping as they fall apart--i used clear tape, which should save them for posterity

Oooh, beings it has been sitting for a few weeks it should be nice and dry, perfect time to do both those ideas. But after that, I got to stop putting new stuff on the car cause I have not had the chance to put miles on the daggon thing yet! Owned it for almost 2 months now and only have 200 some miles on it! :jackinbox: got to get home and fix that situation immediately!

I'm bringing mine to the dealer for them to resolve the orange pumpkin when they have to change my oil tp 0/50w +++

1) Change the seat belt

2) fix the leaky mufflers

3) repair or whatever that moaning sound when turning

4) straighten the muffler tips so they are even

5) fix whatever ticking/diesel sounding time bomb is under the hood during WOT.

I paid the dealer $125.00 to do my rear end with the rear brakes. They also siliconed all the rubber parts (to reduce noise) since it's not a daily driver & lined the rear wheel wells to reduce road noise.

Wow! Seems like one hellofa deal to me. I would expect most dealers to laugh about even painting the rear let alone doing it for that price plus all the additionals. Dang good deal there if you ask me!

I'm about to buy a brake caliper paint kit (the brush-on style - see links below) for the rear calipers so I don't have to worry about overspray and excess masking. I wonder how the axle will look brush-painted instead of spray-painted?

itll look alot better than the rust.Brush off whatever rust you can with a metal brush--dont use steel wool, the remannts will rust on you in the paint.I like using "brass" wool, theres not rust from flaking. Then paint on a rust inhibitor, and let it dry overnight. Then use a fine paint brush and put several thin coats on--the paiint dries prettu qucikly. I know you can get much of the supplies from Eastwood. I saw the post on the rear thats painted by Ford and theyve used a flat black, but the sway bar looks like a semi-gloss.Im partial to a gloss, it just looks better. If the rust isnt bad yet, afetr youve treated it, id just clear it,rather than paint it.But if the car sees wet roads etc, black is the best

I trailered my 2010 GT500 from the dealership as the Nebraska roads were a mess a month ago. I unloaded in the snowy driveway and parked. I looked underneath after reading these postings and it is now a rusty mess. What does anyone recommend using to remove rust?

Torched10,

This old link from Grabber on painting the rusty axle helped me a ton when I did mine a month ago. It is very good with lots of pictures:

Hope that helps,
