Andrew DeSpirito
My first car was a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 2-door with a 5.0L motor. Loved that car. Stumbled upon a site tonight dedicated to Panthers, with a special sub-forum for 2-door panthers (Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis'). Someone on there got their hands on the production numbers for 1979-1991 model years. Two-door Grand Marquis produced in 1986: 5,610 Now, to compare: GT500 coupes produced in 2007: 8,152 Guess I should've hung on to the Merc! Wonder if I can find one and drop the Shelby motor in it...now THAT would be a real sleeper!
thewheelman
My favorite car from my teen years was my mom's '69 Marquis with a 429 4V, high compression. I had the only car in the high school parking lot that you could put 6 people in and still turn the tires when it shifted to 2nd! I love big Mercs! Andrew DeSpirito
I consider my Shelby the spiritual successor to my old Merc...long hood, short trunk, big motor, excellent cruiser. Would've loved to have had a stick in the Merc, but that just wasn't an option! (Then again, back in high school I couldn't drive stick, and had no desire to...luckily I saw the light!)
