My Ebony w/ Tungsten GT500 Arrival Story!

Wow! Where to start? I've waited many years to own my own Shelby stang. The fact that this was even my first-ever new car purchase made it sweeter. Well, I ordered through Wyant Ford in Elwood, Indiana back on May 15 with interior trim, Sirius, and Shaker 1000 options. Finally on October 16th I got my VIN, she was bucked on Oct. 27th, assembled November 9th and arrived at the deaership on Nov.16th. That was incredibly fast as far as shipping and the stories (nightmares) I've read about on here. My only idea is that perhaps the close proximity to Flat Rock permitted them to ship it by truck and not the rail. Guess I lucked out there.

Anywho, I wasn't able to take time from work to get her until Nov.24th, Black Friday (how appropriate!). But I don't think things could have gone any smoother. I left out with my dad and brother from Rolla, MO at about 4 am and arrived in Elwood,IN near lunch due to the time change from CST to EST. The whole way my dad and I talked about cars, hunting, women, etc. My brother (Tim) slept most of the way. My biggest fear was the weather across Indiana and Illinois, but it was a sunny and partly cloudy trip in the 60s! The weather couldn't have been nicer. Needless to say, plan A (driving her back) was a go!

I agree with other stories here, pictures and video are nice, but the car is vastly more impressive in person. When we pulled up, her front half was sticking out from behind a SUV and with the snout-like hood vents I immeadiatley thought it looked like the head of a dragon laid out in front of it's lair just daring to be awakened. I was in love! Here we are at the dealership: (I got the dealer banner in the window btw!)

I must pause here for a shout out to Wyant Ford. Greg and JD were very helpful and the transaction was smooth and easy. The whole week they had my car she was locked away in a secure building with owner access only and she had only 6.8 miles on the odometer when I took delivery! I don't regret the ADM one iota, besides this was their one and only GT500 for 2007 and I don't mind helping the small-town dealer out. Also, the fact that I could make this a father/son/brother road trip for my first hot-rod was worth it as well. Black Friday is kind of a holiday for me now.

I felt like a new-born colt on shaky legs at first when I drove her out as I got used to the shifting and handling. But in no time this horse was pulling at the reins wanting to go faster. The ride back was great. My dad and brother took turns in the other car and we used short range walkie-talkies to spot for each other for ladies on cell phones or doing make-up while driving and such. I got many a stare, wave, and honk on the 400 mile trek back. No challenges, though I wouldn't have accepted anyway. The car is a definite "neck-breaker". I did see a red vert GT500 east-bound on I-70 near Terre Haute, IN around 3 pm. I wonder if that was anyone here? My dad was thoroughly impressed when he took the wheel at the shifting and handling. He soon realized why I was so crazy for this car.

I did meet up in Rolla a couple days later with fellow boardie 66GT HiPo (Travis). He should be getting his red w/ white coupe any day now. We both agreed the car looks spectacular. The only flaw I could pick out is that my right exhaust tip is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower than the left. That will be taken care of. Otherwise, the stripes looked good and the edges all lined up great. Here's a pic over at Lion's Club Park:

The only disappointment I have is that I have to leave her in Missouri for the winter. My deal on a house with garage here in Mississippi fell through (prices are crappy here since Hurricane Katrina). But I know my parents will take good care of her the few months we're apart and will hide the keys from my 19 year old brother!

Here's a parting shot with my other black girl:

For now she sits with 456.7 miles on the odometer. I hope everyone else here has as easy a transaction and delivery as I did!

Hey, John!

Travis told me you went by that KC dealership to see if they'd disclose the damages on that red w/ white coupe that was initially his.

We might do a cruise in the spring when I can make it back up there.

Dave

:hyper:

Congrats!!! Looks sweet..........that's my combo too.........expected < 2 weeks............Now I remember, you changed from white to Tungsten stripes............changing to B&T GT500 ??? Drive safe

Are you able to edit your user name? I really haven't checked.

Dave, stay in touch, a spring cruise sounds good. Yeah, I went by that dealer and they more or less admitted to damage, but I don't think they were telling about everything. They did acknowledge a disclosure that would have to be signed though. What got me was that they were "only" charging 15K adm because of the repaired damage. The GO shelby next to it was going for 20K adm.

Great Story Dave! I just had flash backs of when I picked up my car too after reading that story. Thanks for sharing one of the greatest days you will ever remember in your life.

PS: you might want to print that story out for future chills/up lifting moments in about 30 years, it may bring you back to life one of these days. :hysterical2:

Thanks again & LOVE THAT GRIN! :shift:

Congrats. Dave

Dave, you forgot to contact the St.Louis 7 for an escort through Illinois and Missouri. (smile) I live off of I-64. Well, in that case we will look forward to seeing you at any future gatherings so stay tune, I have a feeling that the group will grow and grow.

Enjoy and nice story

My brother was teasing me that he and my dad got her out on all that ice yesterday and were spinning doughnuts. I told him he'd get some of this :finger: if he even joked like that again.
