Here, for those that want to know more here is the Bloomberg Report article:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...fer=environment

That said, the intent of the measure is to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, create new jobs, and provide the US with energy independence and security. I don't believe they have the votes to pass it, it's close, hence the full throttle spin machine is at a fever pitch on both sides.

The real issue here is that as time goes by, unless we drastically change the way we obtain and use energy, like the healthcare reform, we are only delaying the inevitable and in the end going to make things MUCH worse. The gas prices of last summer are nothing compared to what will come and those like me, that love muscle cars, should be supporting any effort to reduce our use of gas and oil so prices stay lower longer as market demand decreases, just like what recently brought them down as people drove less. So rather than driving less how about we have a better all around clean energy program that reduces that demand.

Or, on second thought, we can all just forget it and as average American's buy into the BS scare tactics and let Big Oil and OPEC keep bleeding us dry and slowly taking our money...eventually, make no mistake, we will pay the piper!

So, we bleed the economy dry, that will creat jobs?

How about nuclear power Jeff?

Jeff, what does anything you just said here have to do with a need to create a new TAX???? How would TAXING people reduce anything? The amount of resources needed will always be there and all the taxing will never reduce that!

It's one thing to do things to get away from dependence on foreign oil....that has NOTHING to do with needing another TAX! This is nothing but another TAX HOAX being shoved on the people! All the global warming (I mean "Climate Change") hype is just that! A bunch of hype to create a TAX on the people!

If we want to get away from foreign oil we can drill here! We can build nuclear plants here! We can tell the whacko evironmentalists to go pound sand because worrying about some fish or insect is not more important than ruining the lives of people!

Since I am the only person here, I think, to live for almost three years 20 feet from a nuclear reactor, I can say I have no issue with it other than we need to figure out what to do with the waste. The current temporary storage on-site plan has got to be fixed once and for all.

Talk to retard Harry Reid about that. Yucca mountain in Nevada can hold the waste. It is a state of the art facility and billions were spent creating it. It's actually a very impressive facility. It was studied for about 20 years and every independent scientific evaluation said it was safe and the best place to store the waste. Reid will not allow the waste to be stored there "for safety reasons" and the Obama administration is shutting the facility down. Another stupid waste of taxpayer money. Anybody with any engineering knowledge is aware that transporting the waste is really no big deal. It's much safer and more secure in Yucca mountain than being held at the power plants.

Yeah, wind is another and a big part of the plan....but it's not going to pass.

Wind is a pipe dream. It couldn't hurt but it won't replace coal or oil. The biggest problem is that the greenies don't want birds getting hit by the fan blades. They have also sued to stop transmission lines from solar panels that are needed to tie into the grid. We have so much coal it's ridiculous. Why we don't just use that and be happy I'll never understand. It's clean and it's abundant.

Not to mention that many people have been paying for the Yucca facility thru a charge on their electric bill for years. Both Reid and Pelosi should take up residency in another country.

The current admin. are a pack of bozos. What more needs to be said? The days we can vote them out can't come quick enough!

I didn't live with them, but does assembling tactical nuclear weapons count? :headscratch:

There is no such thing as "clean coal" it's like "low tar cigarettes" they're still dirty just less so, only with coal those pollutants that are captured are still there just not in the atmosphere then the question comes what do you do with them? Sort of like the nuclear waste issue without the zero emissions. We have a Chipotle restaurant here that's powered by wind that the company says makes them money with the electricity it sells back.

Coal is clean enough for me. Not to mention the fact that I haven't found any affordable windmills to run my house let alone a busy restaurant. Plus no HOA would allow you to put the stupid things on your property.

To illustrate my point it would take 50 of these to power my house. That would cost $124,750.00.

Whisper 100 Wind Turbine

This small wind turbine can produce up to 100 KWH per month (I use about 5000 KWh per month) with an average wind speed of 12MPH (which we rarely have). The New Whisper 100 comes complete with charge controller and the output voltage can be changed from 12V - 48V in the field.

Price: $2,495.00

So, you're not concerned about the acid rain etching your paint on your car?

Actually no. The car has never been in the rain as it rarely ever leaves the garage. I've had it a year and a half and it has less than 400 miles on it. Even if it were to get rained on, all you have to do is rinse it off before the rain drops dry on the car and it prevents the etching. I learned this when I managed a Buick dealers body shop.

It's not a question of powering your entire house, but reducing your power from fossil fuels by some target percentage.

I honestly just don't care about that. We have tons of oil right here at home and tons of coal. I don't believe in man made climate change for many reasons so it isn't a concern of mine. If the liberals would rather spend 30 or 40 trillion bucks tilting at windmills than exploit our own oil, natural gas and coal then they aren't very bright. However, I would get a windmill if it was affordable, small enough to be allowed by the HOA and would eliminate my electric bill every month. If all it will do is save me $25.00 per month then I'm not interested.

Look, I don't know but there are a lot of people smarter than me saying it's possible and an ol' Oil man T. Bone Pickens that's investing. Since they are the "experts" what can I tell ya?

A big part of what T. Boone Pickens says it will take to make it work is converting all the automobiles to run on natural gas.

Are you under the impression that your car is the only thing acid rain effects?

It probably effects other things in small ways at certain times but living in Florida, we never hear about it. You never hear people discussing acid rain or see anything on TV about it or read anything in the papers about it. My guess is that the "problem" is not that severe.

It's early. It'll pass eventually.

This Congress waited the 2 years to get a Democrat in office that will not veto their unread, not completely thought out plans. Make no mistake, Ms. Pelosi hates oil companies and industry as a general rule. (I have met her on a few occasions years ago at board meetings. I work for a "Large Independent Oil Company" here in the bay area.) All she wants is for us to be out of business. We will pass on as much as possible to the consumer, but not all. There will be good paying jobs lost and all people who use gasoline or diesel or heating oil will pay more.

That's change I can believe in. Just not change for the better...

Climate Bill passes 219- 212

The Libs R working hard. Here it is

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31565446/ns/us_news-environment

This bill will ruin the country. Cap & Tax has failed in Spain and everywhere else it has been tried. Spain has 18% unemployment and they lose 2.2 jobs for every 1 job created by Cap & Tax. It creates incentives for businesses to move offshore to countries that do not have this tax. There is even a provision in the bill to compensate people who lose their jobs due to this bill because they know it is a job killer. This is why the weasels rammed it home on a Friday after trying to distract the public with "health care" all week long. The switchboards were burning up with constituents telling them NOT to vote for this abortion but as usual they ignored the people. This basically creates a "stock market" for trading these idiotic carbon credits. The politicians will get filthy rich, the poor will get more free stuff and the middle class will shoulder the burden like always. Studies show that this bill will have little to no effect on the environment by 2050 but it will line the politicians pockets and isn't that what it is all about?

If you were not happy with Bush then how in the world can you be happy with Bush on steriods?

I wasn't happy with Bush then, now, or ever will be. I'm not in the top 3 income percentile, so I had nothing to gain and everything to lose under him...and I did.

But, rather than sit on my ass and bitch about it, I went back to college...one semester away from another degree :happy feet:

Yep! Lots more incentive than they have now. If ya think California is looking bad and in bad shape just wait until the government gets done! California will look like a pinic!

CORPORATE GREED will strip our country of its worth before the government has its way with it. I think Arizona is looking bad, as Honeywell, who was once the largest private employer here, ships all of its aerospace production to malaysia, china, czech republic, and mexico by the end of this year. This was coming long before the new administration, and is simply a short-term appeasement of Wall Street. There goes THOUSANDS of technical and well-paying jobs that Americans WANT TO DO!

The Boeing 787 is a prime example of the crap that comes out of these countries. It's over two years behind schedule, and they cannot acquire enough good parts to make one airplane airworthy.

Cool. Now you can be out of work in two fields at the same time! :hysterical:

Sorry. It was such a perfect setup I couldn't resist.
