Also.

After you've filled the coolant tank with fluid to in between the full marks. Start the car with the heater on the hottest setting and fan blower on full blast coming out of the upper vents. After the car reaches normal operating temperature the air coming out of the vent should be hot. Duh. and the upper radiator hose should also be hot. As well as the temp gauge reading in the middle/normal range. Shut the car off. Wait a while for it to cool. And fill in needed.

I've got a question for you. Did your new thermostat come with a new O-ring?

Oh yeah, Here's where we're getting all of this.

Ford Service Manuals

Go to workshop manuals>powertrain>engine>engine cooling>Removal & installation (or general procedures)>thermostat 5.4 and your good to go.

Wow, you guys are good! And no, no new o-ring included-cheep sobs'. Will take her off and see how the old one looks-only 5k on the monster. If not deformed, just lube with anti-freeze and reinstall. If it looks anything but pristine will just get a new 54mm ring.

K-question back-lable on resevoir says Gold colored AF. Supplemental says GOLD or Green. Have a gal of green on the shelf-ok to use 50/50 mix (distilled)?

OK, got the Gold stuff. It took longer to warm it up and check for leaks and coolant to settle than the t-stat replacement. Good thing I reread the torque for the aluminum bolts- "inch-lbs"-not foot-lbs-that would have been a mess. Was a little tricky getting the torque wrench on the lower bolt-but it all went ok. Thanks to all for quick answers. :shift:

Oh, apparently the Gold stuff has a "bitter" added so that Bambi doesn't drink it thinkin its a Mojito. Don't ya just love Kalifornia and those special interest groups..
