AHHhh - The Smell of New Leather

Recommended Posts

Sure is nice to have that new car smell again. Classic Soft Trim in Livonia Michigan did the install of the Interior Upgrade yesterday morning. General Manager Matthew and his installer's, Devona and Al, turned it around in a tad over two hours. They seemed very efficient taking seat parts out, carefully removing old for retention, and allowing me to watch. Process was very interesting as kit included new foam as well.

Sure hope that info below works. Little apprehensive following Grabber's Tutorial as it appears Photobucket has had some update. I used the IMG format.

Relative to package I am very happy as seats do have more to hold you it. Gary Disney was gracious to hold processing mine to see if my wife would bite on getting an SC while we were in Vegas. She did not agree yet on the SC yet so my kids have started helping. So I will be happy to stay with the standard GT even if a SC works out.

I have more pictures with details of joints and seat inserts. I will post later once I confirm these are working.

Thats cool! I have been waiting to see the Shelby GT interior. That is getting serious concideration. Thanks for posting. How does the material compare to the original? You said it has new foam. Does that mean that the seats have a differemt shape? Is it the same for the back seat?

I like the material better than the OE. Seems a little softer or more friendly to the touch. Kind of like you would expect from a good pair of driving gloves. I noticed pieces seemed heavier before they started the install as CST let me come back in the shop before starting.

Both front and back got some foam updating. Most noticeable was in the front as both side of the back and the seat cushion hugs the body better. Reminds me a little of the Thunderbird Super Coupe in the late 80's that had power adjustment to help you fit the seat to your.

Looks great! Thanks for posting and please confirm this is from the Shelby store.

Yes this was from the Shelby Store. Did mine early in the first 20% discount offering. Price included choice of making seats two tone, shipping to get it to an installer, and the installation. Classic Soft Trim was the shop that was chosen for me.

It was evident that they have been around for a long time. They have had work from both Rousch and Saleen. They were even picking up their 3rd 2010 Camarro to convert over to leather for a dealr. I would expect the TS Store or Gary Disney has someone that can do it near your location. My drive in Detroit was only 30 minutes.

Ordered mine last night form Gary Disney. I am also getting a new console covered & perferrated seats done at the same time. I am looking forward to my first "big" interior mod, should be a good one. :happy feet:

Pic's coming after install- Ya Iam stoked!

After thought is do I really want perferated seats with light colored leather inserts? I think it might get dirty real quick with all the small perferations where dirt can get into. I might change the seat perferation option. Gary is easy to deal with so it won't be a big deal.

I thought someone said it was not actual perferations, it was like our current seats that do not have actual holes in them.

I could be wrong.

They have indentations in the leather, it just does not go all the way through the leather. And with light colored inserts it could be a bad situation in a year or so. My 2 cents-

It looks great !!

I do have a question though; the leather appears loose. Will it tighten up with time?

My installer indicated that they prefer a couple of days of having interior baked by the sun to have leather cure and tighten up. Since having mine done on MAy 27th my car finally go it's first day in the sun yesterday. Weather has not been idea to get it out till now. Seems to have gotten better. Figure three more 80 degree clear days should do it.
