Is It Safe?

Hello Everyone: I would greatly appreciate your expert opinions/information on the following topic. I have plans on acquiring a shelby gt500 next year but my wife has expressed concern about the car's stopping ability. Since the car has a weight distribution of 57% front to 43% rear she is concerned as to how well the car will handle "panic stops" at high speed, >100mph. Not wanting to cause too much marital discord I am hoping you all can provide me with factual information that I can review with her to lessen this concern. This matter came up after she spoke to a friend who had heard rumors that the car's rear end is all over the place when panic stops are made at high speed. Thanks for your input. :sos:

Panic stops at 100 MPH could be unpredictable in any car depending on the circumstances.

According to the Motortrend article (scanned here http://www.stangsunleashed.com/forums/inde...?showtopic=4027 ) it did pretty well in the 100 - 0 braking test.

Well I took some friends of mine out for a quick ride from 0-100 (or so) and after letting off the accelerator I slammed on the brakes just to give them a feel for the stoppong power as well as the acceleration of the car and ALL of them were just as suprised with the stopping ability as they were with the speed capabilities.

Had they not had their belts on they might have gone through the front windshield (at least that is the comment one of them made after his ride). I guess they weren't expecting me to slam the brakes since there was no traffic in front of us so it scared the hell out of them and I was getting off on it.

It really surprised me too the first time I slammed the brake pedal down (gotta know your car inside and out and what better way than to do it than to practice before the real thing happens and you are left wondering can I pull it off or not!.

Lucky we got anti-lock brakes and they work like a timex watch (I used to hate anti-lock brakes but now I can appreciate them much more than before).

Kinda of like a carnival ride I suppose (only much better)!

The brakes are fantastic, I had to slam on the brakes on the freeway yesterday, my wife said that if she did not have her seatbelt on, she probably would have smacked her head on the windshield. I could not feel any lightness in the rear under heavy braking, it does nose dives like a mother though. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!

:redcard: If your wife knows more about braking distances then you do, then you don't need this car, you need a Pinto & a new wife.

I realized after I posted this message that I would get a certain amount of ribbing. I appreciate your joke. I took it the right way. Unfortunately, I can't fit in an pinto or escort. I'm 6' 8". Take care.

:censored: With the 'Is it safe' topic title, I thought this was going to be a discussion of The Marathon Man.

Sorry about that. I chose the title to get people's attention knowing that everyone would think of The Marathon Man. Great movie but pretty disturbing at the same time. I can only watch it every few years becuase it gets me too keyed up. Take care.
