toploader 4 speed

I finally finished rebuilding the original toploader transmission out of my 66 fastback today and got the new Hurst shifter and linkage installed.

I used a rebuild kit from David Kee toploaders, which worked out great. All synchros, bearings, bushings, shafts, seals, detents, springs, etc are new.

Anyway, here are some pics I took.

Looks Good!

I did the same thing many years ago when I swapped the C-4 Auto out of my 1966 GT350 Clone I did when I was in high school... Sold it in 1997, and just found out it was sold again in 2006 to a couple of guys from Madison, WI...

Someday, I would like to have another one just like it...

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought about trying to install this thing myself, but without a lift I decided to farm the install out.

The same guys that are running my brake lines are going to install the toploader for me. I'll ask them if they have any advice on your question though. I can see how that switch might cause some trouble for sure!
