Millions in AIG bonuses draw chorus of outrage

American International Group asserted had to be honored, to the tune of about $165 million and payable to executives by Sunday — part of a larger total payout reportedly valued at $450 million. The company has benefited from more than $170 billion in a federal rescue.

I see you're missing the point as well. It's called sarcasm.

Look, the dire situation that this country is in isn't about race... It has much more to do with doing what is right

and just by the American People.

Plain and simple.

Here is a letter to my employees:

Dear employee,

I wont tell you how hard I have had it or what pathetic microwave meals I had to endure to make good money off of your labor as you may currently have to do just that now to survive, instead, I only want you to know this:

Our economy and specifically our specific market is in such bad shape, the best we can do is break even this year. But for those of you who have worked countless years without complaint or resentment, I offer my thanks and guarantee that I will do my best to keep you all employed and continue to provide timely pay so that you may work as hard as possible to keep this company competitive and in business so that you may provide for your families. I worry not about taxes imposed or raised on our business as it only applies to profits, and since we will have none, the point is moot. I have made good money in this business and will not be greedy or bail out because of inevitable downturns in the financial markets or recessions caused by a chain of horrible government decisions that span both parties over the entire history of our country.

Signed,

Me

I find it interesting that some business owners want to bail out when times are tough, or point out to their employees that they should feel grateful for their jobs in a bad market, and yet when the market is good, and the business is bringing in record profits, the employee should not even bother to ask for raises or rewards for good service, as those are reaped only by the owner. Yes, we take the chances and risks of running a business, but employees take just as many chances as we do. The difference is when we close a company, we can start a new one or live off of the earnings we made if we are smart. The employee has to get a new job, and hope they dont have to file bankruptcy or face loosing their homes in the meantime.

I know this isn't a popular view, and may be borderline socialist, but I prefer to think that I am able to have a view of apathy for what an employee goes through to make a company money. I have employees that make decisions daily that help make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that money goes to the company, not them, but they do it anyway. As a business owner, I dont have to worry daily about being laid off or fired if Im sitting at my desk writing a post on Team Shelby, and not meeting my mortgage payment or grocery bill or utilities. There are pros and cons to both sides of a business, and I realize that anyone reading this has an argument that counters what I say, or helps its wieght in truth, but it is how I feel when I read arrogant obtuse fake letters that would litteraly drive employees to go on a shooting spree or quit or ruin morale so much the business would just not be effective. Hell, how do you think my employees feel for me to drive to work in a brand new Shelby, or take a week to go to an event every 3 months?

All I am saying is there are many benefits to business ownership that employees are well aware of, and if you are lucky, they know how hard you have worked or work now, but to throw that in their faces is an insult. They make far less money, and also have to pay taxes on what little they make. If you have a corporation, you can still make your pay, pay personal income tax and still come out ahead.

I gather this whole thing is brought up because taxes may go up a LOT on businesses, but a good CPA is all it takes to justify operating at a loss whether you actually are or not. Play the game or change it, but dont whine about it to people that have no control over what you do.

In politics, we are seperated by the haves and have nots...and we have 2 parties that "say" they cater to each class. Neither does, but that is the perception. Is it really that much of a surprise that the Democrats are in power if 80% of the voting public fall into the have not category? You gotta give it to the Republicans, though, they have a substantial disadvantage in sheer numbers of voters if it werent for the fact that the majority of people are also morally conservative. I have an employee that is diehard republican, and yet she lives in a trailer, and drives a 15 year old chevy cavalier...absolutely the most ironic thing I have ever been a part of. Sucker! Its kinda sad....

Wow, read this and not sure what to say but, I will say this. Buisness owners do better when they share thier wealth with thier employees and treat them as they should. Of course, in many cases, this doesnt happen. And then you see people like DDT and Jeff screaming that we need to redistribute (understandable). In many cases, then we tax buisness, even those that do share with the employee. And then they earn less so they have less to share or even worse, have to let employees go. Two different views, same outcome. You are correct, neither party caters to the working people. They both have thier special interest groups they cater to and none of us are in thse groups. As a Republican, I know I am not one of the chosen. But, I see to many her and elsewhere that really believes the Dems give a crap about any of us and, therin lies the difference. I keep hearing about Rush and the didtto heads, Well boys, look in the mirror because you spout the democratic line.

The fact is that, most people are not motivated by money, they are motivated by the way they are treated, specifically, they are appreciated and valued. And, true, money is a part of expressing a persons value but, so is thanking them, giving them public praise and so on. So if the lady is happy with her trailer and he cavalier, more power to her and, she is not the sucker.
