SGT Jay Johnson, USMC 1983-1987

4th Generation Marine, Son of Old Corp Marines

I just got this picture from my Uncle, my Mom's brother, this is my Great Uncle, 1st Lt. Albert Scott, USA

in France 1917. They were all Army on my Mom's side until she joined the Marine Corp in 1958,

she was always the rebel of the family.

Many thanks to all of you who serve to protect our way of life on both sides of the border. My great grandfather served in WWI and my father in WWII. Today is a day that Canadians wear a poppy to honour those who have served our country and in particular those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks to all those in the Canadian and American Military, we greatly appreciate you courage, your commitment and your sacrifice.

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep,

though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

My sincerest grataude to all who serve and have served in the past.

Please travel to this link to see a story about the veterans that live to the north of us; it's quite a moving story.

A great story about a great people. I remember when the Iranian students took the American Embassy. The Canadian Embassy took in Americans living in Iran and kept them safe. Many Americans were snuck out of Iran by the Canadians at their own peril.
