Grape Ape
Hey guys, I'm new here but wanted to share something that I cooked up: This could be used for either a new GT350 or a GT500-KR. After seeing a few early release partial teaser photos of the upcoming 2010 Mustang, and some spy photos of the possible GT500 version, it got me thinking. What if Ford continued the lineage of the "King of the Road" GT500-KR version onto the 2010 Mustang? What would it look like? We know that the 2005 Mustang was designed with the 1968 in mind. From the clues I saw in the teaser photos of the 2010, it seemed as though the 1969-70 Mustang GT500 would make a good starting point for my illustration. The nose has been extended to cover the two round headlights and incorporates the bumper. The lower fascia is cut back with a gaping opening and fang-like brackets to support the lower spoiler. The hood harkens back to that on the 1970 GT500, with its four scoops and rear vents. The side scoops would be routed to help cool the big disc brakes hidden behind a modern version of the 1993 Mustang Cobra Turbine wheels. The final touch of nostalgia being the wide side stripe with the "GT500KR" tag on the front fender. Dean

Son of GT
Interesting concept to be sure, but let's just wait and see what the actual cars will look like when they are released.

Grape Ape
Wow, tough crowd around here. I think GrapeApe was just sharing his excitement about what possible visual details may show up on the next-gen Shelbys.... Can't a new guy on here just dream? -Sudguy4 Thanks Sudguy4, That's exactly what I was doing! Thanks for rest of the comments, though. It does look a little like the Challenger, but that was not my intentions at all. It was hard to get the modern look of the extended nose (similar to the '69-70 Shelbys) without it looking like the new Challenger. That was one reason that I cut the lower valance panel back to give it more of an actual bumper look. The spy photos showed the inner turn signal location and the slanted grill surround, so I took that basic outline and used it for the chrome grill insert. The Challenger's grill insert is square on the sides, but this one is slanted. The hood is the one area that I still need to work on. I really like the current KR hood, but I didn't want to carry that one over, plus the '69-70 Shelby hood was completely different than the '68's. Thanks for the comments, and keep them coming. John Canfield
My first thought was '69/'70 Shelby as well, which are my favorite years, styling-wise. Good work, and let's hope someone is watching who can make it happend!

Grape Ape
Back to the drawing board!! WHY?! This design was "based on" the 2010 mustang. Everything is an add on. The only items that truely are not correct are the rear quarter windows. The extended nose / fenders, side scoops, hood, etc. are additions to make it look slightly different than the stock Mustang and GT/GT500 versions. Matts
I like it a lot! 1969-1970 Shelbys are my absolute favourite years. I hope someone at the Ford engineering plant is watching this.
Fastbackman
I think it's a really good modern version of the '69/'70 Shelby! Great job.
07SGT4648
BRILLIANT !!! I LOVE IT!! :happy feet: Excellent job, you just gave me hope for this model. To me it looks reminiscent of the early 70's models 71-73 Now lets turn it around and look at its ass. I am wishing for the Shelby that we can see the long horizontal lights. I hope Shelby could incorporate their own tailight or even tailpanel to differentiate between the mustangs and Shelby's :happy feet: Great Job, keep up the good work
