Welcome back Matt. We enjoyed your company at Terlingua, and are relieved to hear your injuries will heal. Take your time and this experience to move forward. If you choose to enjoy high performance cars again, this experience has the potential to allow you to find an even greater satisfaction with them.

Godspeed in your healing.

Welcome home, Matt. Andrea was just asking after you last night, and is also happy to hear you are on the mend.

Back in 1972 I spent about 10 days in a hospital after an end-over; in my accident, my Rickenbacker bass flew out of the back and hit me in the head (so much for roll cages, the roof wasn't even scratched). Me and the rick are still pounding away, but the head got better. My biggest issue was coming off the drugs; I suppose that's because they did their job. It'll pass, though.

If it means anything, I've always thought the performance, handling and braking of performance cars make them safer in all driving conditions. Since then, I've either gone for lots of weight (lincoln, caddy) or superior performance. Sort of a defensive (hit me, I can take it) or offensive (I'll just get out of the way) approach to safety. In the end, this is where I ended up, and couldn't be happier. I'm a better driver, no doubt, because of my experience, and I'm certain you are as well. When you get in another Shelby, you just might find yourself right back at home.

I spoke to him today as well, he sounds good! I am glad he is better and that we have all learned from this......

I'm glad your home and your safe. I wish you well in your recovery. Be glad you had a hard top instead of a convertible. I was very impressed that your Shelby GT saved your life I will give Ford and Shelby an AA++ for safty features. I know I have learned alot from this trip of a lifetime. I personally didn't take any photos of the accident I felt it would have been very disrespectful but I do have a picture of you in your car before we left our lunch break let me know if you want a copy. The coolest part of Terlingua was the police escort to Alpine I followed Gary Davis's 2008 KR and have the entire ride on video his car in one BAD A$$$ car.

All,

Again, thank you all for the phone calls, notes, and prayers. I'm sure my recovery wouldn't be as far along as it is without them. I had a bit of a scare last week when I had a couple of episodes where the right side of my face and my right hand both went numb. We tried going to the ER but they told us it was an 8 hour wait so we left when I started feeling better. Normally those symptoms mean a stroke, but they don't go away if its a stroke. I haven't had those symptoms for almost a week and a half. I met with a neurologist today (today was the soonest appointment I could get) and he thought that that numbness was due to either the blood on my brain or the fluid around my spinal column.he has me scheduled for MRIs of both next week to see if there's any improvement. I'm pretty sure that the brain scan will show improvement since I'm thinking much clearly now and I'm even able to solve sudoku puzzles again. For about the first week at home I would get really forgetful (like forgetibg what to click on to log into email) but that stopped too. I took an EMG test today at the neurologist's office to test my nerves and muscles, and for anyone that hasn't taken one of those let me just say it's a whole heap of fun involving and electric current and a really long needle.

The good news is that I finally got my stuff back from the resort today. Whoever pulled my iPod from my car, thank you. I thought that had been destroyed like the car, so it was a very nice surprise when I openned up my suitcase. I still can't remember anything of the wreck - just queuing up to leave Marathon after lunch and then waking up in the hospital on Sunday. I got Stuart's (Speedracer) gift in the mail yesterday and it's just plan amazing. For everyone that sign the TRT, thank you so very much. I wish I hadn't of had to total my car to get it, but it's very cool. Now I just need to get it framed so I can hang it up.

Glad you are slowly recovering, Matt. The flag was a good idea of Stuart. We signed somewhere at the top. Patrick & Astrid #12 the Dutch couple. You are welcome and give it a nice place in your home.

Matt,

Glad to hear that you are recovering well. Bea and I pray for your fast and total recovery. We told Bea's mom what we did with the flag that she made and she was so happy to hear that it went for a good cause--she's also praying for you now. God's speed my friend.

Matt,

Awesome to hear from you :yahoo: . I am so glad you are on your way to recovering. We were a bit worried when we had not heard from you in a while. We understand that your life is completely different now and it will take time to start to get back to normal. I had your ipod and your phone, but the police took the phone away from me. I hope you got/get it back. If you dont have it back yet you might want to contact David (aka Vorpal Bunny). I think he might be able to help you there. How are you feeling towards visitors? You and I could share sad stories (I have my own since the event) Warren and I have talked a little about coming up to see you and the rest of the Houston area people. If you are not up for it that is cool also.

Again it is GREAT the you are doing some bettter. I will continue to pray for you.

For everyone wondering what flag we're talking about, here's the story. My mother-in-law made a flag for my Terlingua Photo Contest submittal. After Matt had the accident I had everyone sign it for him (including Carroll Shelby, Bob Bonderant, Bill Neale, Tom Yeager & Amy). Here are pictures of the Photo Contest Picture and Bea and I holding the signed flag. We just wanted Matt to have something positive from the event:

Well, it's been a month since the accident and the scans tomorrow will tell us if I have to see a neurosurgeon to drain fluid from around my spine or if my body is doing that naturally (hopefully my neurologist can also tell me when I can expect to have two working hands again). I've been missing my car really badly for the past couple of days so I've been thinking about getting either a Terlingua or another Shelby GT. Bud at SAI suggested the Terlingua so I started looking at new and used V6's. Then I got worried because I wasn't sure if they'd be able to convert a 2010 Mustang with the body changes and I didn't know how much long the 2009's would be available. So then I asked Robert Parker with Ford if he knew if any dealers still had new black 2007 Shelby GTs on their lots. Robert helped me out and I found a car almost exactly like mine about 4 hours away. As soon as my insurance gets taken care of, it looks like my girlfriend and I will be driving up there so I can buy a new Shelby GT. :happy feet: So it looks like I'll be coming back to the Shelby family a little quicker than I had thought.
