SAI Address - What is it

Just a warning that the GPS mapping route might not be your fastest route. The freeway northbound doesn't get as congested as the southbound.

So I hear that the Southbound traffic is a bear. :censored:

How much time do you suggest I allow to get to the airport, return my Hertz rental car and get my flight on

Alaska airlines. The flight boards at 3:55pm and we just have carryon bags. I figured that I better leave SAI at 2pm to get there on time. What do you think?

Okey dokey.

So you're going to the airport from SAI?

I'd leave at least half an hour, maybe an hour earlier. We left for the airport Friday at 5:30AM, turned in the rental car, got to the gate and had only about 40 minutes clear time for an 8:00 flight. We are literally only about 5 minutes away from the rental car return location. So I'd give yourself an hour to get to the airport (at that time of day, find any way but the freeway, even LV Blvd might be faster, and a little east and you're clear of traffic jams but have stoplights to deal with).

Also, there might be a more optimal way to go west and off at an exit after it blocks up and go west to one of the streets that goes south to 215 and then to the airport. Check your GPS maps - I have used Decatur because it goes all the way.

I really hope you rented a Hertz GTH... If not you'll probably never hear the end of it unless there ware none available (there weren't last week.)

Hope you had a good trip. Did you do any sightseeing other than the strip and show? When I go back next time I'm going to go out to the Vegas Red Rocks. Didn't have time this time.

Maybe going back over Labor Day and definitely going to the Barrett Jackson auction in Oct.

Bud or Adrienne might be able to send you on a super secret faster way. I'm much more familiar with the south side of Vegas and Henderson to the East.

Yes I am leaving from SAI directly to the airport. My plane boards at 3:55PM. All your traffic tips are giving me a little scare. I thought I had a simple question, but I guess not. I just don't want to miss my flight. I will ask Bud for a simple answer.

I just want to know how much time to allow to get to the airport from SAI, turn the car in and grab my flight. I thought 2 hours would be good, but it looks like I am wrong.

Rob, you're in a rental car and you have to be at the Airport by 3:55PM, I would recommend that you leave SAI no later than 1:45PM just to cover your butt against any southbound traffic jams that may and frequently do occur anytime in the late afternoon hours on the 15 freeway.

When I say jam, I MEAN jam. NAVTRANS is widing the freeway north of downdown LV, and that combined with heavy semi truck traffic on that freeway slows the southbound traffic down to a crawl.

And the shuttles from the Consolated Rental Center can also run slow because of the crosstown traffic going to the airport. And don't forget the TSB checkpoint too. The checkpoint lines can get very, very, long sometimes.

Good luck!

1:45 it is. I have our boarding passes printed and 3:55 is early boarding, so I could fudge that by 10 minutes if need be. This town has construction going on everywhere. Buildings and road work and tons of traffic and people. This place is booming.

Not really. While we were there last week two major casino/hotel projects shut down for the time being (at least a year, one said). The economy is too slow, materials too expensive.

There must be a dozen mega hotels being built here with thousands of new rooms becoming available in the next year and a half. Someone has the money. I just wonder if all the new rooms being available will have an impact on the other hotels. The one thing that I noticed is that the sidewalks are crazy crowded and no where near wide enough to handle the people flow during the mid week. Friday and Sat. is even worse. One thing that I noticed is that the service in the hotel restraunts is very excellent, and the food is very good.

Home yet? All I know is that I won't use the Freeway for about 2 years...

I would like to see a 24-hour video of "The Strip" in slow motion. Before our friends of 20 years moved there we stayed on the strip (usually Monte Carlo because of the "lazy river" pool) for 4 or 5 years in a row. What I remember is that during the day there were lots of families with kids. WHen the sun started going down (and it actually cooled off) every 10' there were people (usually young, both male and female) hawking "adult materials" - they would "slap slap" on the back of their hand and try to pass one to you. Some (having never seen one before) would take one, look at it and immediately throw it on the ground. There would be thousands of these on the corner.

The next morning, at sunrise about 5:00AM, when we would go out for a brisk walk, all of that stuff was gone.

I think the Las Vegas Street Rats feast on that stuff.

These guys are still everywhere. Some of them even have big sandwich board adds on them. There are also automotive "hot babes" adds rolling everywhere on the streets. :nonono:
