Anyone coming through N. IL on their way to Dearborn want to hook up?

I'll join the caravan when it comes through N/W Indiana.

What time is everyone leaving Wednesday morning.

If we leave early enough were invited for breakfast at Coldys place.

Okay...Though I told Jeff I wasn't going to go, I signed up today, just in case something breaks free. This date is in conflict with another event I want to attend, but things change. Nice to have an option.

My GPS says that the drive from downtown Chicago to downtown Dearborn is approximately 278 miles, a 4.5 hour drive. I have made the drive to Detroit too many times and I am sure we can improve on this. Michigan State Police are pretty cool guys when you're reasonable.

ati...Why Wednesday? The event is said to run on SATURDAY 13 Sep. 08, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Or, maybe I have the wrong event in mind? IMHO, this is a one-day event, no overnight stay.

If not, we are looking at an early start. I suggest we get out of Illinois and into Indiana by 5 AM on our clocks. Dearborn is on Eastern time, one hour ahead of us from the midwest. Thoughts?

We could select certain interchanges for timed hook-ups. Michigan City, IN. is one, New Buffalo, MI. (exit #1 after crossing the IN/MI state line) is another, and my preferrence. Just making suggestions right now. Thoughts?

Jeff...If you could find your way down to I-80 and Harlem Avenve, there's a Speedway gas station just north of the interchange. I could meet you there?

There's time to plan, just offering my thoughts.

Mac,

The car show event open to everyone is Sat the 13th.

Those that signed up for the full Dearborn event is from Wed 10th - Sat 13th

Thanks for the link, SDude, I wasn't aware that this event was a large as it is today. I believed it was just another long distance car show, with some neat benefits. I can't do this whole event, most of it has been closed now anyway. Shoot...Oh well, I tried.

Thanks again, SD.

I think I understand this now, thank you for the update.

I never knew the Dearborn event was a three day schedule. I only glanced at the one-day car show on Saturday.

I hope to see you there.

We can look to meet up hear where 294 and 80 meet perhaps?

I think there is some major construction going on up there along 80 at some point. I heard you can get stuck for an hour at a time as they may completely shut one side down at a time.

Does anyone know where this starts and ends?

I may cut over and come up from IN somewhere instead to avoid the construction.

For those coming from the Chicago area, cutting over and taking route 30 may be an option to avoid the construction. A lot of lights to go through, but may beat sitting on 80 in traffic jams for an hour or more at a time?

True statement!

Have to give this some more thought. :headscratch:

Guys....just a heads up. Be careful if you plan on taking 30 east into Indiana and plan on heading up on Northbound I-65.

Northbound I-65 is an absolute mess when you get within a few miles of the interchanges around 90/94 east and west.

not sure how this affects any of your plans but I wanted to throw that out there

The south end of I-294 before it dumps into I-80 is also under construction, but the last time I drove through IN on I-80, that work is completed. I'll scout it out this week and let y'all know.

Hi Alan. I'd like to hook up with you and others for the run up. As you know I'm in Michigan City.

94 through northern Indiana is not bad during the day. They have been having some full lane closures during the middle of the night, but I think thery are pretty much done hanging beams for I 65. The guys in Chicago and westward should not take 30. 30 is a pain in the azz.

Sounds like there are about 4 or 5 of us who could hook up.

I could be ready to leave whenever. :happy feet:

Michigan State Police are pretty cool guys when you're reasonable? You haven't been traveling in Michigan in awhile, have you?

Since the State & local Governments are broke, lossing Jobs & trying to get more money for each fiscal years budget that keeps getting cut, all law enforcement agencys are writing tickets for 6mph or over to generate cash for each county (use to be 10+mph). Speed at your own risk, they use laser guns, X, K & Ka Band radar up here.

As far as Breakfast, I know a few spots on (US-12) next to the highway (I-69 north, Exit 13) less then an 1/8th mile for easy off, easy on access. we can meet at either Bob Evens, Big Boy or the Coldwater Garden. All serve a great breakfast. The mrs can't get out of work until 12 noon, then I'll be heading up there

I've never had any problems with the MI state police, seems they focus more on trucks than sports cars. Speed limit is 70 MPH, fast enough to make good time, why push it? Likewise no problems in IN and OH, guess the keyword is "reasonable". Thanks for the heads up, things do change when money is short and it's short all over.

Drove to New Buffalo, MI. today, and here's the latest scoop. Leaving the south side of Chicago and entering the I-294 at Cicero (SR 50), I found the I-294 under construction. Things move well until there is a hazard, and then you sit. I kept my speed at 65 MPH, and everyone was passing me, but we all know this can change in an instant. There are no "shoulders" for disabled vehicles and it can get ugly at a moment's notice. Once merged into I-80, the road was clear of all construction. The zone ends before the merge.

I-65 (IN.) access is closed. You can exit I-80 and go south on I-65, but not north. Don't know how this affects NB I-65 travelers, but I had a clear impression that anyone NB on I-65 could exit to EB I-80. Still not sure, best check it out?

Once merged with I-94, things went very smooth. At the I-94 break off into MI., it got even better. Traffic was very light through Michigan City and beyond. BTW...Came home from the casino 100 bucks richer, but spent that in gas and misc. Break-even day, eh?

I'm not registered for the three day event and I couldn't make it even if I was. However, I am registered for the car show on Saturday 9/13, and I'm planning on a one-day road trip. Anyone else planning a one-day road trip? If so, you can reach me at 312.401.1396 and we'll figure out a meet location and time.

Y'all be safe, have a good time at the event.

No but how about security?

If you valet the cars are parked on the side of the building that's all I could get out of them on a call. Note to organizers of future events! Verify parking situation and security I wonder if there is a hotel with a secure covered parking in the area that could have fit our needs. Oh well...

I did look into the covered parking but the only good place that I could find was the Carlton Plaza in Dearborn and they where booked for this weekend. I could not use them. '

They do have valet and they have a place in the back of the building that is set aside for us to park. There is a security gard that tours the property regularly I will ask that he can keep an eye on the back property but nothing that will be staying to watch the cars 24-7.

Ok guys I've decided to drive up in the early morning on Thursday, leaving Chicago at about 1AM, and arriving into Dearborn around 5AM with an early check in. This will mean HOPEFULLY few or no traffic issues and I'll save a night to pay for gas rather than deal with daytime traffic just to get my stuff early, and one less vacation day taken.

See you all Thursday AM! I'll be the one sleeping in the back! :-)
