Not a good day.

Wife and I were making a left turn from a stoplight.

I jumped on the gas too hard.

The rear came around. I tried to correct it.

It came back around to the left - I lifted - but too late.

We headed straight into a stone wall.

No one hurt. Air bags didn't even deploy.

The cop said $6-8k damage to the car.

No ticket (I taught his son - which might have helped).

Front end pushed in.

Right front rim bent.

It's the first wreck I've had since I got my license 40 years ago.

My heart is aching.

I feel stupid.

Will they get it right?

One cop took some pics - I'll post when he emails them to me.

A bad day.

He picked the wrong day to be funny. You think? :redcard:

Wifey is fine. We were only doing about 30 mph.

The car is at the body shop.

My fault. Just jumped on the go pedal too hard.

Perhaps I'll come away from this with more hp?...

What trauma just standing there looking at it.....

..my friend I am truly glad you and wife come out ok; that is what is really important. The rest is just crap to deal with. And like with all crap, you will get it resolved and a year from now it will not even enter your mind. Good luck with putting it back together, and I have faith that somehow you will end up with a better car than you started with. You seem very innovative to me at that kind of thing.

Glad you and wifey are ok Ruf. We've all done things that, upon reflection, make us do this - :censored: then this :nonono: then this  then this :banghead: . You'll feel like people are doing this to you - :finger: , just ignore them - let those who have never made a mistake cast the first stone.

Have one of these - :tequila: , rebuild the Rufstang bigger, better, faster, stronger. We have the technology, insurance has the money. Time is on your side - do it right and you'll be raising hell once again!

Ruf,

I know how sore one can be the day after an accident. Are you 2 feeling OK today? I bet you guys are sore!

Sorry I had to close your other thread!

If you want, I could alter the bottom of the title of this thread to say something different then "off the truck".

Just an idea...think about it.

Thanks, Y'all. We're fine. Wifey has a little soreness from the seatbelt.

I might have been going 25. The stone wall gave way, so the air bags didn't deploy.

In retrospect, I think the drive by wire contributed to it - when I lifted, the throttle hangs. The wreck may have still happened - don't know.

I hadn't thought about the hood....If I need a new one, I"d like the Shelby GT-H!

And - maybe it's time for 18" rims!

This is gonna take some time to get over.

Dumb - dumb - dumb! :banghead:

Hey ruff

I feel for you. I am just glad no one got seriously hurt. You .. know even I play with my shelby .. goosing it from time to time breaking the rear end loose .... I may stop that now.

Even though I race cars and when I want to enjoy my Shelby .. and have fun .. I do try to make sure that I am in a place that allows for driver error or should I say .. driver over confidence ?

Anyway .. really sorry that this happened. All of our cars are like an extension of us ... so it hurts double bad.

I too feel for you

Ruf --

Sorry to hear about your ride. Glad you and the wife are OK. I did a similar thing in my '88 GT. I got on the gas a bit too hard making a left turn and the rear end went left, right, and left into the curb. Ruined a wheel, the entire rear axle, and a bunch of suspension parts.

Well - I just started laughing! It was almost spooky that she picked today to call.

I've got a feeling that Allstate's going to approve OEM parts - and nothing more.

I may have to wait a while to get the front end looking like it did.

I'll take some pics tomorrow and scan and post them.

I keep replaying the event over and over in my mind.

I've had the car loose on that very same piece of road more than a few times - I'd just lift a little and straighen it out. This time - it just snapped around. Like I was on snow.

One of our members (a friend who let me drive his Shelby! That won't be happening again anytime soon!) PM'ed me and asked me where I went to Drifting School. :hysterical2:
