There's a New Pony in Grabbers Stable

Grabber

Recommended Posts

I have several updates on my car. I just got my drivers license last week, and washed the car today.

It is nice being able to drive my car by myself, listen to my music without my parents complaining, go where I want, and brag to my friends.

On a less exciting note, same day I got my license I got braces, they are not the most comfortable thing to wear.

It has been a long time in the making, but I finally am able to drive the car I got over 3 years ago.

I'm really glad not to have you drive me so I don't have to stress. Your a good driver but it's really hard for the mama to put her life in her son's hand so to speak. B)

You tell him mom! Besides you have your own new toy to drive... :shift:

Nice thread... I enjoyed perusing it.

Be glad you have a dad who can relate to you so well and guide you step by step ;) Imagine the household where dad, the chevy lover with the chevelle ss, hears from his son he'd like to find a nice Mustang.

But in all honosty he didn't care, and I didn't either; as long as it's american (ized?) then I'm ok with it....well, form the surface I'll leave it at that.

But yea, owning your own car is an amazing feeling.....and then paying for it feels....well you don't need to worry about that yet.

It's also amazing how much the small stuff plays a role; I wash mine weekly, because It's parked under a tre >_< believe me thats painful. I take no pride. Growing up with the good stuff is fun though, the experience is mutual. 5.0 ;)

Here's some info:

There's a ton more if you search for it.

Grabber - I'd watch this. Would hate to ruin the engine due to a stupid plastic intake cracking through no fault of yours or Davids.

Hindsite I should of replaced the intake manifold a few years ago. It cracked yesterday and shot it's wad when David entered the college parking lot. I had my insurance company give it a free tow to my local Ford dealer. They wanted $650 for the part. Screw that !

I ordered one on line from thes guys for $210. Paid $55 bucks to have it 2 day aired in from Florida. It will be here tomorrow. My dealer will have it back on the road after the 3 hours labor it takes to install it.

This is the one I bought:

Tonight David and I spent a little over 2 hours wrenching on his 96 Stang. He turned 35K miles on the meet and greet drive and Alex rode with him.

As Alex suggested we replaced the 16 year old spark plugs and wires. Not the easiest to get to. The job went well and his car is ready to go back to school tomorrow. David has been going to college for a year now and he is going to be taking to summer classes at college too. Not bad for a Junior in high school.

The high school pays for his college thru a state program called "running start" and they give him credit for High school by going to college. Next June David should have his associate degree when he get his high school diploma.

Great Job Rob and David...is the hesitation gone now?

It was great to see you all, as always...

Alex

Yeah, it runs good. No problems now. Also the gas tank cover problem I showed you ended up just being the cap turned 90* to the side, I guess Ford didn't catch that you had to have it turned in a certain direction for the cover to lay flat.

Great job on getting a "running start" on college David. They have something similiar here in California that I tried to get my daughters into, however this state is so :censored: up, the local JC doesn't have funding or space available. :banghead: Why they even promote the program at the high school, I don't know. Enough of my rant... :backtotopic:

Keep up the GREAT job.

Dan

David will be going to boot camp after he graduates from HS in June. David is only required to take one day a week of HS because he has enough credits already to graduate if he wanted to as a Junior. He chose not to graduate so he could continue to take the free college that the Public School system pays for called Running start. David will have enough college credits to get his associates degree by June 2013 when he gets his HS diploma. Then he will enter the National Guard boot camp for 10 weeks and then be deployed to take about 22 weeks of training for the job that he is signed up to do: 35M Human Intelligence Collector

Having the correct information about enemy forces and potential battle areas is absolutely necessary to plan for our national defense. Intelligence specialists such as the Human Intelligence Collector (HUMINT) provide information about enemy forces and potential battle areas. Human Intelligence Collectors primarily conduct interrogations and debriefings in English and foreign languages, and debrief U.S. prisoner-of-war returnees, refugees, defectors and other friendly sources to obtain information for military intelligence.

Until that happens he will start a 6 phase program with the guard to prepare him for boot camp. He will be getting paid for that too. He is now enlisted. Here is the RSP program he will be taking:

Congrats David. (Rob, you just brung him up right, he made the choices so he gets more of the credit :))

The son of a family friend in high school went to 'Nam doing the same thing. He worked his way up and became a driver and security lead for a General "over there". We lost track of each other but his mom was and always will be "Marian the Librarian". (That really was her name, and that is really what she did.)

Thanks Tony. You are right David gets the credit !

I Just read thru Davids enlistment contract. Basic training will be at Fort SILL in Oklahoma for 10 weeks. Then he will be going to Fort Huachuca, AZ, home of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center to train for his job of Human Intelligence Collector for 22 weeks.

Black cars sure are a job to keep looking nice. David drives his car to Clark college everyday and to Summit view High School a few times a week since he received his drivers license almost 2 years ago. I bought him the car when he was 14 and it's hard to believe he will be 18 in a few weeks. I buffed the car out today with some paint sealant to make the car look new again. Again....black is a tough color to keep looking good....but when clean they sure do look nice.

David has about 36.5K on the clock. When he got the car it had about 28.5K on the clock, so he has put on about 8K miles driving to school and back and a few errands.
