Guys,

I ran across this clean like new Mustang GT yesterday while I was on a drive. It looks like new. I drove it. It drives great. The seller has a firm price of $9,995 and won't go down. I know the seller, and have bought 3 cars from him over the years for my kids.

Kelly Blue book says it's worth $7,600 bucks.

Here's some pic's and the add.

My first reaction was that yes the price was on the high end for a 13 year old car, but then I saw the low mileage and am reconsidering.

Unless the car has problems you should get many more trouble free miles out of a car with only 28k miles but there are things to look at.

Are the tires original 13 year old tires that should be replaced?

Was the car driven 179 miles a month or was it driven 28k miles in the first year or two and has sat for the last 10 years?

I'm also surprised that you say the seller wont go down in price for you. So you've purchased three cars from him in the past and are looking at a forth purchase and he's saying that you have to pay the same price as say me who's never stepped foot on his lot? If that's the case I'm not sure I would make a forth purchase.

Good luck

Steve

it sure is a clean car, but its not priced to sell unless the right person comes along and wants a first year 4.6 GT.

it will be interesting to see how long it stays for sale and how much he eventually gets.

Steve,

The guy seems to price his cars at his rock bottom. He has had it since May. He had to at 10, 995 and lowered it to 9,995 recently.

He showed me a car fax report on the car, and the owner put 20,000 miles on the car during the first 6 years in California. He then moved to WA state and has averaged a thousand or so miles a year.

I found an oil leak on the car after I crawled under it. It's leaking at the tranny bell housing where it meets the back of the motor. He did not know that it was leaking. It looks like it has been doing it for a while too, because the round cross arm is dirty from it, and I could see that it hits the exhaust and burns off. I smelled it and it lead me to the underside of the car.

I told him about it and he is sending it to the shop to be looked at and repaired, according to an e-mail he just sent me.

With an oil leak....it aint worth what he wants for it. I told him that if he has a "ASE" certified mech fix the leak and write a service evauluation on it, I would consider it.

I just found out that this 1996 Mustang GT with the 4.6L (281 ci) SOHC V8 was purchased with the limited 248A option (or GTS as it was referred to in the 94-95 models). This car is fairly rare with Only 5,479 units sold in 96.

The 248A option was marketed toward driving purists who wanted all the power and performance of a GT without all the heavy accessories the GT’s came standard with. So what you got was a mustang with the GT running gear that weighed less than a standard GT, making it even faster than a fully loaded GT.

Do you guys think that this adds value to the car ????

Book values are merely a guide. You can't always go by what book values says, especially on older LOW mileage cars. Try and find them and then see if you can buy them based on what book values say.

It all comes down to how nice the car is and how much you want it. Someone will buy it because it will be that nice to them and well worth it.

Since this car appears to be so clean, what exactly would you be doing to it to tinker with it?

I though you were interested in more of a project car to tinker with? This looks like one ready to just hit the streets and drive.

Have you done a search for 96 GT Mustangs to see what the asking prices are and the miles they have of them?

We took in a 96 Camaro a few weeks ago. It was a clean low milegage car like that Mustang appears to be. KBB showed it was worth about $7500. We sold that in two days and got $9500 for it.

Thanks for doing the search John. finding a car with this kind of low milage would be very difficult indeed. I too have looked. Nothing comes close to those low miles. The only tinkering we would be doing is fine detailing in every nook and cranny and a couple mods here and there.

I was looking at getting a project car at first buth then started thinking about getting a car that would be safer for David's first car. Also in the long run, a project car could cost a big bundle to make it "like new" and safe.

David does not know about this car deal, but I can tell you that black is his favorite color, and he loves the Mustang brand and look. David is at camp this week. We could do many little things on this car over the next 2 years in my shop that would teach him how to maintain a car and keep good care of it. We would take the tires off and see if the brakes needed to be done. Paint the rear axle. Change the plugs and tune it up. Oil changes. All the little stuff.

The seller sent me an e-mail today telling me that the car goes in the shop Monday to fix the oil leak that I told you about in an earlier post.

How ironic. I'm getting ready to put my 96GT up for sale. I'm the original owner. Got her 13 April 1996. Kept mostly in a garage with 71,500 miles and has a Vortech supercharger (45K miles since it was installed). Looks like asking $7-8K would be fair based on the other 96GTs for sale.

This thread might help you price your car.

Have you set a price yet?

I had 2 SN95 Mustangs and they both drove poorly in the handling Dept. during rain, light snow or ice. Buy a good set of winter tires for that time of year.

Insurance might be pricey for a young driver and a GT

I bought each of my kids a Ford Escort. That allowed me to sleep better when they went out at night to hang with friends.

I'm in agreement with that. When it comes time to go out cruising how many teens want to hop into a Mustang GT compared to an Escort? A teen can have very good driving skills and a good head on their shoulder but it doesn't take much for a lapse of judgement to occur.

I'll also agree that I can't imagine what the insurance would be for a newly licensed teen driving a V8 Mustang.

Hi Grab - I vote for getting him something SLOW as a daily driver. Meantime - find a fox body Mustang that needs some work that you both can work on and take to the Strip - but not on the street. Just my 2c.

I vote for buying that mustang! You can pick up a cheap safer car for any bad weather driving and night out joy rides that he can use. The mustang can be used for father and son driving time and take the mustangs to car shows and stuff.

Insurance should not be that bad as a part time driver under mom and dad's policy.

If it was all in his name only then it would get very expensive!

When my daughter was 16 it cost me $700 year to cover her on all my vehicles at a part time driver. I had 3 that were all over $30K vehicles and all new.

On her 18th birthday she bought herself a brand new dodge neon. It was all in her name. Her insurance went from $700 year being on my policy to $4,200 year on her own policy for a $12K neon!!!! Her insurance payments were more than her car payments! On a stinking neon!

I say get the mustang for the project car and father and son driving time. Get another beater when the time comes for driving to school and going out alone with the friends stuff! That will keep him safer for when dad isn't around to keep an eye on things!

Heck, maybe he can just take the old Ford truck! Then use the mustang for other fun times together. That truck is to nice to sell when you have a young driver coming up that will be getting his license in a year or so.

If you came around here once in a while, your name would come up!

Wanna go? I'm ordering tickets tomorrow (reserved seats). The track is about 20 miles south of Richmond. We're arriving Sat morning and staying for finals on Sunday.
