Guest evilchris
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustan...021184168QQrdZ1 LONESTAR Ford auction, current bid to $69k, PRIVATE AUCTION so you can't see the bidders. Car isn't even delivered yet! Yet here is a BUY IT NOW $59k from another source, IN STOCK: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustan...027289123QQrdZ1 Auction has lasted awhile, has a ton of bidders, is $1k under the buy it now currently.... Please explain to me how this is not fishy. How is it LONESTAR's Shelby's seem to be worth $10k more in all cases? Granted theirs is a vert but notice no activity the past 2 days and 5 hours from end? Why won't they have a public auction so we can see if there is any fishy bidding activity? Because, as stated in earlier post, Lonestar is the ONLY HONEST DEALER , and, therefore, EVERYBODY knows they should buy it from Lonestar at $10k more, because they're so ethical! We on this board are simply uninformed! Yeah right...

Evil, I thought you were better than this. Your other complaints not withstanding, comparing a coupe to a convertible makes no sense and doesn't support your position. Here is another CONVERTIBLE auction with a high bid in line with ours: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-FORD-M...1QQcmdZViewItem The $4000 difference can easily be attributed to the color. As stated before, the reason for "secrecy" is simply to protect the bidder from fraudulent second chance offers and other mischief. This is a decision that I personally made and is a blanket policy that applies to all our auctions not just our GT500's (we may have missed a few here and there). While I understand your concern (I'm not being sarcastic - I do understand) I place a higher priority on protecting our customers from fraud than the curiosity of skeptics. Since implementing this policy, we have eliminated inquiries related to bidders receiving fraudulent offers.

While I understand your concern (I'm not being sarcastic - I do understand) I place a higher priority on protecting our customers from fraud than the curiosity of skeptics. Since implementing this policy, we have eliminated inquiries related to bidders receiving fraudulent offers. The largest purchase I've made on ebay was close to $4,000 for a guitar. If the auction had been private, there is no way I would have bid. $70,000 purchase? No freaking way. Perhaps you don't like my examples, but as a whole lonestar's cars seem to pull $10k more than others, and lonestar is the only one with private auctions. The most likely explanation for this is shill bidding. I'm not saying YOU are doing it, but someone else might be. I noticed the auction ended with reserve not met! $20k over not enough for a car not even delivered yet!
LONESTARFORDINC
We have considered not using the private auctions since your comments in the other thread. We never thought that people would see that as fraud. But, before we kept all the bidders info open, several foreign criminals used that "contact bidder" link to offer them a "frivolous" 2nd chance offer. We have been talking to ebaY for weeks on a soultion. I mean, you would think there would be a way to prevent all the fraud with the billions of dollars ebay generates. We do not advocate or participate in schill bidding. Number one, we do not have to cheat to sell cars. (please dont bring up adms keep it in the other marathon thread) Plus, ebaY will ban any user for that. With the amount of sales we are doing it wouldnt be worth it, even if we could get 30,000 over on a Shelby. And the convertible you are comparing to a coupe was purchased/paid for from another texas dealer and the eta is still tomorrow (pray to god ford keeps the schedule). We have the MSO or Certificate of Origination. I think our auctions do a little better for several reasons: 1) www.lonestarford.com links to ebay auctions and has a big advertising budget 2) search engine optimization through Advantix 3) Our photos/ Original Msrp/ Auction style is better than most on ebay (i think) 4) All the threads in www.stangsunleashed.com and numerous sites draw some attention (while most post here are pretty negative, any exposure is good news) Maybe we can do an open auction for evil chris. evil chris are you bidding on our cars? check out our counter report: Hello, lonestarfordinc | Counter Report The status of all listing counters you have had on eBay listings. VNMOUS1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustan...021184168QQrdZ1 LONESTAR Ford auction, current bid to $69k, PRIVATE AUCTION so you can't see the bidders. Chris, I certainly won't and don't have a comment about LoneStars pricing, but I will tell you that I have both bid on and held "private" auctions on eBay. Specifically for high priced items. People cruise eBay looking for "passion" in bidding and when they find people who are probably disappointed at their loss of an auction, they pounce with a "second chance offer". It's fake, of course, but an unknowing bidder (which is the majority of those on eBay) knows eBay actually HAS a second chance mechanism and mistakes this one for the real thing. These thieving bastards are very good at it. They can also "fish" to see if you have a PayPal account linked to your ID. I get three or four spoof PayPal requests per week because I do quite a bit of biz on eBay. I report them all, but I'll tell you, they really are real-looking quite often. So, are these guys using this for their own profit? Probably. Is there are problem with private auctions? Absolutely not. Hey, at the end of the day those of us that bitched about high ADM have/are doing do because it directly affects us getting a car at the price we want. Truth be told, and if the tables were turned, 99% of us would do the same thing because we're all smart and opportunistic. This car evokes passion, but so does desire. From the time we were all kids, we wanted most what we couldn't obtain. This example is no different. Those folks that wanted early cars (myself included) paid whatever it took to get one. To those that got MSRP, congrats (I wasn't one of them). For those of us who paid anywhere from a little to a ton over sticker paid exactly what the car was worth to the individual, not to you or anyone else. Will they ever recoup their "overage"? Nope. I only paid a couple of grand over, and I'm not banking on ever getting my money back or making money on this car. I bought it to drive and enjoy, not as an investment. Hell, I have 2,000 miles on it in a month! It's a driver! Sorry about the long post, but let's really let the "supply and demand" thing play itself out. For you, and others that want one but refuse to pay more than MSRP, just be patient. You may find one at that price....you may not. That's the risk you take for sticking to your guns. No one would ever fault you...and I respect all of you, for that. But, you DO take the risk of that event never happening. Again, it all boils down to what it's worth to YOU. Thank you , America, and good night. (BTW, thanks for the help on the math question. I was doing it bass-ackwards) bj
5.4 Shelby
Lonestar, Good job coming on here and defending yourself without the "I'm gonna sue everybody" attitude. These types of posts will get you a lot more respect and credibility than the previous ones. Maybe it is legit, but, it does seem odd that your bids are consistently higher. Alloy Dave
People cruise eBay looking for "passion" in bidding and when they find people who are probably disappointed at their loss of an auction, they pounce with a "second chance offer". I'm a "seldom" ebay user..and have never had a "2nd chance offer" sent to me. Do they come via email or through the ebay site? If through ebay, don't they have the seller name with the "rating" attached? I would think the rating would be either zero or very low. If it's an email...then I see what you are saying...please describe in a bit more detail how the scam works so I know what to watch for. Dave We have considered not using the private auctions since your comments in the other thread. I believe this...make sense and seems logical. There may be other factors as well. I know nothing about the cost of living in Texas, but I've traveled enough to know that many things cost dramatically more in some cities/regions than in others. I know that MSRP may be the same, but the ADMs by region may vary. For example, the average salary of a (pick a job title) in Iowa may be $60,000/year. For that person, the GT500 at $60k (with ADM) costs a year's salary. For that exact same job in Connecticut or San Diego or San Francisco, where the cost of living (and to a lesser extent wages) is higher, that person may make $72,000...so the GT500 costs only 83% of a year's salary. Therefore, a dealer may be able to charge a higher ADM in the "high cost of living" areas. I live in Indiana....almost everything is inexpensive here (relatively speaking of course). We were on vacation in San Diego in May, and looked at two houses for sale that were very similar to ours in size, age, and quality...and they cost about double what ours is worth...yikes! The really good ones will first pirate a legitimate user's account so that you'll be able to see the postive feedback, history, etc. One of the key give-aways is they'll often only communicate via e-mail. Many times there will be some story about how they've moved their operations overseas in order to provide a cover story if they have you wire funds to their (overseas) bank. In other instances they'll have you send money via western union or other questionable avenues. In a related fraud (it took me a couple times to figure this one out), "customers" would call me claiming to be interested in a particular vehicle we had on eBay. They would always sound very convicted in their prospective purchase. The would request that I fax a copy of the buyer's order so they could bring it to their bank. This seemed normal, so I'd do it. After the first time I did it, the buyer vanished. I figured he was just another flake and didn't give it another thought. A few months later it happened again (different buyer, different car). This time my suspicion was raised to the point that I at least started trying to think about why this might be happening. I gave it passing thought over the next day or so when I finally put two and two together. I remembered a few fraud inquiries we had received where the bidder requested that I either send a contract so that he would "feel comfortable knowing he was the only buyer" or, and here's the part that made sense now, "I (the customer) can send you one that I've already prepared." So I figured out the complete fraud is to get a legit buyer's order from a dealer so that when you make a fraudulent second chance offer to someone, you have some official looking paperwork on hand to present/fax to the mark. This is why I now require a credit card deposit, including a copy of their driver's license and insurance before I send anything out (I didn't get them before because I was basically naive and/or lazy). A deposit may not be perfect protection, but most crooks will move on before making any effort like that.
