sharon
coldy, Dearborn will be more than last year because I am adding in more items, however it will not include the hotels I will block off the rooms but the guest will be required to pay there own hotel. With Terlingua this was just not an option with only one real hotel in the area it was nessacary for us to have the whole hotel for this event. It is not like Dearborn where there are hotles everywhere.

clark17357
I am sure you have seen the other posts bitchin' about the cost. Please remind Robert, Sharon and the rest of your Team, including the Big Man, that the majority of us are in awe of what this club offers to it's members. Michael Hi Michael, I do not see folks' posts as bitching as much as expressing profound disappointment at being economically excluded from what will be a memorable event. You are spot on that it will be a great experience. When the first event, the BB, was as spectacular as it was and cost $600, it was pretty predictable that everyone would get excited about Terlingua but feel badly upon learning that the cost is four times that of the BB. I had a really bad day when the price was announced, as I tried to lie to myself that I could do Terlingua when there was, really, no way. I don't think anyone, in the abstract, is other than appreciative that events are being put on. It's just that when you know how great it will be (from BB experience), it is painful conclude that you do not have the coin to get in the door. We will all feel better about it later, particularly when all of you post those photos you are going to take. Jim

With the group on this Forum you could easily make the shooting the central event. Now that would be one heck of an exhibition area: "Guns of Team Shelby." I can see it now. Jim Hey Jim, I guess my justification for Terlingua is kind of like how I rationalize all the mods I do to my car. Here is an example of my logic......CSBB in Vegas - $699.00 + WYNN casino contribution makes $2300.00 look like a smokin' bargain. :beerchug: Michael

I remember my wife's absolute disbelief that I could spend the money I did on brakes. My justification? "Honey, when you have a supercharged car, it has to be able to stop as fast as it goes." Made sense to me. Just don't forget those photos so I can kick myself for not going (which I guarrantee I will do). Jim

But when I & others first read the announcement, to me it only highlighted the main key points to the event without any further detailed explanation as to why it was so much more money then the 85th birthday bash and because of that I found it unjustifiable. Now that we know city/state permits are needed & police assistance is needed for street closures along with an airport that had to be shutdown & many other details yet to come out that drove the cost factor up, it makes it a lot easier to see as to why it’s $2,300 for this event. Had those details been told up front in the announcement; I don’t think so many folks would have been questioning what they were getting for the price & what all was involved especially if they had to miss the birthday bash & didn’t get to see what all was involved. Pictures can only show so much & something’s are better understood in person. Again sorry if it sounded as if I was complaining, but it really was more of a case of sticker shock that made me respond about my upcoming concerns for the Dearborn Event

Stump, I was thinking about Mr. Shelby signing the stock of my AR-15. I already installed the Shelby laser "driving light" on each of my Glocks. I always figured that the secret of Mr. Shelby's chili recipe was that it was based on DuPont 3031 gun powder. That would explain the "kick" it has. Now, as I recall, one of the members has a Barrett .50 cal. that he mounts to the turret in his motorhome. Could be just a rumor, I suppose. Just need to figure how to get the gun safe on wheels so I can tow it to Texas behind the Shelby. Jim

speedyburd33
I CAN put off the $2300 in performance upgrades to make the trip. I CAN put off the $2300 in wheels/tires/styling upgrades that i would buy if not the performance upgrades to make the trip. I CAN pass on spending that money on my Shelby to make the trip. I am perfectly fine doing that. I CAN'T get the time off work. I want to make this trip very badly. I know it is the chance of a lifetime, and there is nothing but fun to be had. My job is seasonal and the company I work for works 6 or 7 days a week. I have already been frowned upon for letting the company know I need 3 days off this summer.(one for a wedding, one for my sisters HS grad, and one for a concert i'm taking my brother and sisters to) Thank you so much Team Shelby and everyone involved for the chance, but I'm stuck at work for this one. Frank S
If business hours have ended for today, and there is no email with sign-up information, does that mean the organizers read my mind and know I'm no longer a candidate for attendance at the Terlingua Travesty? Unless ... All you folks that won't/can't go for whatever reason are interested in subsidizing my participation so I can do my usual excellent job of photographing such events with excellent equipment and having excellent results displayed with minimum delay. If just 23 of you chip in a hundred bucks apiece, I might be able to afford it. Make that 22 chip-ins. I'll pull my own weight to that extent ... No, really: I'm pretty sure it's out of the question for me. The solar tubes, the faucet she is leaking and the fence is falling down. I can't afford it. On the other hand, I can't afford not to go. I can't. I can. I can't. I can. I ... ( looonng sigh ) Where's that email?
