BillyRay
Friends, I.am considering cutting loose my 67 GT500 for a 05/06 GT 40. My question is who has drivin a GT 40 and would you swap these cars? I know a 40 year old muscle car really cant conpete with a newer state of the art 3.3 0 to 60 supercar. Driving the 67 Shelby can be risky with all the uninsured drivers out there in Arizona. I,am 48 single so I,am thinking in 20yrs the GT 40 still will be a roller coaster with a set of keys!! Thanks for any and all imput!!!!!!!!!! BillyRay Phx AZ I need 180K for the Shelby if anyone is interested. Call 602-478-9000 Billy
LSR
I would go for the GT-40. GT-40 production has ended. GT500's have another year of production. And GT500 along with GT-40's are on dealer floors as we speak. With the GT-40's now being sold at sticker and GT500's above sticker. Not that this may matter to you. But again, I personally would go for the GT-40.

brands5.0
Really hard choice id keep the 1967 GT 500 WHY? Because the value will go up much faster then the ford GT so today you want 180k but in 5 years youll be asking 250k and the GT will going for what a 100k But i could be wrong her is how i would see it. But how can you pass up the FORD GT 1967 GT500 PRICE 2006 FORD GT PRICE 2006 180K........................160K 2010 250K........................100K 2020 300K........................100K +/-
Lokius
Are you serious!? Hold onto that GT500 with all your might, that car is 40 years old and it is already worth more or ~ to a brand new supercar, $150k is supercar territory. Give it another 6 years, the new ford supercar will be out to compete with the italians, and your GT500 will be worth even more!
5.4 Shelby
Tough call. The GT500 is a major classic. The Ford GT is light years ahead in performance. I guess it boils down to which one lifts your skirt the highest. Take it to a track event that someone is driving a GT. Offer to swap rides. Of course, he would go with you and you would go with him to ensure no abuse of either car. Then decide for yourself. I bet there is someone out there that owns a Ford GT that would jump at the chance to drive a '67 Shelby GT500. I just wish I had to make that decision. What new Ford supercar? We may never see anything like the Ford GT again.
RUFDRAFT
My 2c. If you're sitting on the Shelby - you have deep enough pockets to buy the GT, too and keep the Shelby. Do that.

GT350H
Having your cake and eating it too: Just a thought if you can afford the payments. Take a line of credit out on the Shelby, lease a GT for 5 years and "drive it". The payments could be less than the depreciation over a 5 year span, while the GT500 continues to increase in value. At the end of 5 years look at the current buyout value, compared to the market price, the GT500 value and which one gives you more pleasure to have. Then make up your mine on what to do. Damn, I hate it when I sound like a banker.

Call 602-478-9000 Billy I say hold onto the GT500 until somebody will trade you a '06 Ford GT AND give you $180,000! The problem I have with getting rid of our '67 GT500 is I know I'll never get another one once it's gone, so I'm trying to hang onto it as long as possible. Our '07 GT500 is still several months away from being delivered, but I really want to have both cars for a while. It would be fun to have an '07 GT500, red with white stripes sitting in the garage next to a red & white striped Ford GT however. Maybe someday! Florida Chris
Since you have two late 60s GT500's I have to say, sell one of them and buy the GT40. Unbelievable car. There is no comparison as you said. I haven't a clue about future value (my cars are not investments they are toys) but I can assure you that no car will give you more driving pleasure in the years ahead than the Ford GT. It is an amazing car.

Your '67 looks gorgeous -- I guess your decision would have to be based on what you want. I've never driven a Ford GT, but would love to. Long term your Shelby will likely keep going up if it's the specimen it seems to be (see auction info below) and GT500s are HOT right now. Will the Ford GT appeciate like the '67 GT500? Dunno, but I don't think so in the short-term (10-20 years). If your '67 is an all-original high-point car, $180K seems low based on the recent auctions of fine specimens which brought betw $220-450K (but those aren't daily drivers by a long shot! ;-) In other auctions, I've seen some '67 GT500 fastbacks in well-beat/clapped-out shape as low as $25K. These are the best examples auctioned at Barrett-jackson this year (PalmBeach and Scottsdale): 656 1967 SHELBY GT500 FASTBACK SOLD 226,800 2006-PBCCA 712 1967 SHELBY GT500 FASTBACK SOLD 245,160 2006-PBCCA 1326 1967 SHELBY GT500 FASTBACK SOLD 451,000 2006-BJCCA 1259 1967 SHELBY GT500 FASTBACK SOLD 270,000 2006-BJCCA 1250 1967 SHELBY GT500 FASTBACK SOLD 222,480 2006-BJCCA 1297 1967 SHELBY GT500 FASTBACK SOLD 237,600 2006-BJCCA And here's a link to all vehicles auctioned at recent Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event: 2006 Scottsdale PDF All Shelby 1967 GT500s are on page-9. I figure the '67 will still appreciate at a cosiderably higher % than the Ford GT short term or long, but, me??? I'd get the Ford GT and enjoy the supercar! . Call 602-478-9000 Billy I also own a 1967 Shelby GT500 and seriously considered the Ford GT for about 1 week. I then bought a 2007 Shelby GT500. My reasoning? 1) Value Appreciation: the 1967 Shelby GT500 will only continue to appreciate at 10%+ per year as one of the premiere muscle cars. The Ford GT will depreciate as all fine exotic cars do and then level off. 2) History: The 1967 Shelby GT500 was the last Shelby model made in the original Shelby factory in LA by Carroll Shelby and has 40 years of history. The Ford GT, while a great looking car, is only a "copy" of an even greater car, the Ford GT40. 3) Driveability: While it is rather challenging to drive around in such a collector car as the 1967 Shelby, it is as challenging to drive and park a $200,000 exotica. Bottom line, the $40,000+ 2007 Shelby Mustand solves all of these problems. Just my personal view but hopefully it helps. I am glad I live up here in Canada. That way I won't hear your screams when the 1967 Shelby GT500's hit $300,000 in a few years!!
